Want to Buy ATV - Buy AUS or US ???
Hi All,
Like many others I have a US Itunes account.
Wanting to order and watch movies from my lounge Room(rather than my study), I am going to Purchase Apple TV.
Aside from the ludicrous price difference is there any difference in the Australian ATV vs. the US ATV ?
I definitely want the ability to order movies from the ATV unit in the menu.
Does this make sense ?
Thanks
Dylan

The Australian ATV definitely permits ordering and watching movies from the US store, as well as all software on awkwardtv.org
Since the software is identical in both regions, the only potential issue is in the power supply. I'd be very surprised if you had any issues at all installing the US ATV in AU (but no guarantees, of course).

People have been using US AppleTV's in Australia already. You shouldn't have a problem.

You'll need a power adapter of some sort obviously, but if you're going to import any product import an Apple TV, the Apple TV has the worst markup of all Apple products in Australia.

I bought an Apple TV from the US through Price USA and put in a 250GB HDD and I'm loving it - a great device.
All you need is a Aussie version of the power cable and you're fine - it is a universal power supply.

I just bought a refurb ATV through a friend in the USA. Cost me $300AU landed to my door.
Regarding the power lead, all I did was buy a plugtop from Bunnings. Cut the US one off, and wired it up. The ATV is rated from 100v -> 240v. You may also find that the lead is a standard cable found on electrical equipment, and DSE or Jaycar may stock them.

I've been debating whether to buy one from usa refub or new. I have been looking on the Apple.au site for a refurb for $279 as someone has posted in a previous thread. Has anyone got a refub ATV of the apple.com.au site recently?

You can get them at any electrical store. It's just standard C7 plug.

Regardless of which ATV you buy (US or AU) you have to realise that a US iTunes account is what you need to buy and rent movies from the Apple TV.

I've got a US 40GB ATV, it only cost me $270AUD. I had a few spare figure-8 power cords lying around.
Can anyone else confirm or comment on the warranty issue? I have bought a 250GB HDD to upgrade it myself anyway, which would surely void any warranty I may currently have.

I also picked up an AppleTV (40GB) from the USA without any problems (via eBay). Including postage (which was around $40) it set me back about $AU240 all up. Will upgrade the HD to something huge soon enough, which will surely nix the warranty anyway.
