New Mini-tablet multitouch device???

What are your thoughts about a new mini-tablet multitouch PDA-like device that is rumored for launch this year, maybe during WWDC....

MacDailyNews - RUMOR: Next-gen Apple iPhone imminent; new Multi-Touch ‘iTablet’ due in June

Sorry if this has already been spoken about in the iPhone threads.

Post your thoughts.....

I think they would wait to see how the iPhone goes before any of this. Agree with Lachie..

Depends what Apple wants this device to do. It may have nothing to do with the enterprise market, so a tablet could be in the works. I wouldn't count it out yet, especially with stocks dwindling very rapidly of iPhones with 6 weeks until the *expected* announcement of the 3g iPhone.

Steve did say at Macworld that he still has something up his sleeve for this year. I don't think a 3g iPhone would excite the masses the way a new device would

Not gonna happen. The intel thing wasn't as simple as a denial. It's that the guy never even said what people are saying he said.

I absolutely believe it. WWDC announcement with a launch a couple of months later. The 18 sessions at WWDC that haven't yet been revealed will be on development for the new device.

Why? Based on what? A quote that never happened?

It's nothing but a guess on my part, but it's hardly ludicrous:

a) "never happened" is arguable - more than one site backs up the story. And Intel's denial is hardly conclusive either - what are Intel really going to say? "Oops, you got us. Here's all the info we have." Um, no.

b) Rumours of a tablet go way back before the current round of speculation. The original rumour dates back to 2006. More recently AppleInsider have repeatedly stated that their sources indicate more multi-touch OS X products are coming. And the rumour of a tablet at WWDC originated before the Intel Germany comments.

c) Steve even said in a NYT interview that Apple had "invented a new class of interface". Think they're going to just stop at a phone and an iPod?

and d) if there isn't something coming, why are there 18 unannounced sessions at WWDC?

They could be 10.6 sessions, or hopefully sessions relating to the new, improved, and actually worth the money .mac!
