The AirPort Express Thread.
Hi all, am interested in purchasing an AirPort Express in the next few days hopefully, but when I check the Apple Store, their Estimated Shipping is 1-2 weeks, and I've heard some rumours about a refresh in the coming weeks.
What do you all think?

i went to buy one aswell, and the lady said world wide shortage, so that normally means refresh on the product, might be today if apple sticks to their tuesday trend.

Some new accessories would be very cool, i.e. Airport Express, Mighty Mouse and even Cinema Displays, I would be happy

Okay thanks for the help guys :-)
So the question is - do I go for it and buy one, and if so, where from?

I'd go for a time capsule instead.
I've got a brand new AEBS arriving in the next few days (it's on the boat in my signature) and if I could offload it and use the cash for a Time Capsule I would.
*edit.. ignore me - wrong thread. Thought that this was the aebs one!
My only concern with the Airport Express is it will drop your speeds on a 802.11n network down to g speeds. I think it really does need an update.

yes. but if your network doesnt ENTIRELY support N anyway. it doesnt matter (ie. a pc only has a G based card)
it may sound fairly obvious, but my problems with the AEx seem to be due to running off a powerboard....
can i suggest that if you are having problems then you at least switch the AEx to a standalone powerpoint
now i just need to get the remaining two PCs onto the same damn network!
(couldnt find an appropriate AEx thread that was recent)

/continued thread hijack - answer
I had my airport express running fine on a 6 point powerboard - I will not say just how many double adapters were plugged into that as well... lets just say that Victorian townhouses in England don't have many power sockets!
Plus - it's very cheap and simple to get 802.11n cards for PC's. Not so easy if you are older mac hardware set up.

meh, I can live without 802.11n for now anyway, as the PC, Nintendo DS & the iPod Touch are all 802.11g.

well there you go.
i am still in the process of setting up the airport express and our entire network (our network of 2 wired PCs, 4 wireless PCs, and my macbook dont like co-operating)
and i havent had much time at home since i got it the AEx!
we have a two storey house. with a ridiculous setup
router - 4 ports - 2 PCs one spare lead, one Access Point (AP)
AP - wlan #1
(all downstairs)
AP client - airport express via ethernet upstairs
airport - wlan #2 - macbook, 4 wireless PCs
then theres the printers upstairs and downstairs. still working on that, and networking, and getting the two wlans talking to each other
airtunes works on all wireless computers though
by the way, thanks for changing the title Beau - i think the Airport Express is definitely worth getting

So hopefully if I order one tonight, it'll be here before the 27th (when we finally make the leap from dialup to satellite broadband. can't wait) :-)
