Excellent interview with Steve. So much common sense from the man.

I can't believe they threw away the original design for the iPhone and started again. Amazing.

It was good reading and yes I did enjoy it.
I particularly liked the comment from Jean-Louis Gassee - "Democracies don't make great products. You need a competent tyrant."

It was also interesting to see the Henry Ford quote.

I always thought that there are philosophical parallels between apple and the original ford car, in which you could get it in any colour "so long as it was black"

Much like the first ipod, and the recent years macbook, imacs, etc.

I like this quote at the end:

Quote:
On managing through the economic downturn
"We've had one of these before, when the dot-com bubble burst. What I told our company was that we were just going to invest our way through the downturn, that we weren't going to lay off people, that we'd taken a tremendous amount of effort to get them into Apple in the first place -- the last thing we were going to do is lay them off. And we were going to keep funding. In fact we were going to up our R&D budget so that we would be ahead of our competitors when the downturn was over. And that's exactly what we did. And it worked. And that's exactly what we'll do this time."
It shows that he, unlike many companies, has a clue how to manage negative cycles to be ready for positive ones. I hated how at on one of my previous jobs, the first thing to happen if budget was tight is that they cut back on working hours. This would piss off customers and make things far worse for the company. Standard company thinking is so backwards it's incredible.

That was an excellent interview Am still to read the main article.

It was great to see Job's taking a much more casual approach to his normally scripted answers. I think that interview showed he is still a real person who really loved what he does. I bet he hates (in a way) the direction Apple has gone (big business with lots of boring business stuff) just as much as some of us.

Maybe reading oPtion$ has helped me come to this opinion

Looking back at video's of Steve when he was introducing the Macintosh and is almost crying, that is the Steve I love. The guy is an icon. Video is here for those interested, very good watch, definitely one of the defining moments in tech history;
