Target disk mode malfunction

I have just upgraded to the 24 inch imac. The trouble some people had with the gloss screen is absolutely non-existent for me, and I love it.

My trouble is when connecting to my previous imac g5 in target disk mode, the g5 (acting as the hard drive) conks out midway through a 150 gb transfer. I have set the system preferences to no sleep, and no power save settings, but this hasn't helped. Up until this, I have had no issues with hard drive.

The transfer is about 100gb, but this shouldn't be a problem should it ?

Am i missing something?

Thanks in advance

When you say it "conks out", what actually happens?

One thing to try is moving things in smaller chunks... It may just be struggling a bit under the volume...

Another thing - are you trying to copy over the System? (as it wont let you)

ok,

by conks out, i mean the firewire icon that moves its way around the screen disappears and the screen goes black. There is no hard drive whirring, and the transfer on the imac 24 remains stagnant.

You may be right, and the volume can be the issue. So I will try in smaller segment

Sounds like your G5 has actually shut down. It could be suffering from a failed power supply or power rail system, both of which are known and common issues with the G5 iMac.
