You need the right AppleCare, for the right machine.
If you have a MacBook, buy the iBook/MacBook one (iBooks are PowerPC/older than MacBooks, if you didn't know).
If you have a MacBook Pro, buy the PowerBook/MacBook Pro one (PowerBooks are PowerPC/older than MacBook Pros, if you didn't know

).

Have many of you had to claim under Warranty?
I guess it could be a good investment?

I have. Many times. AppleCare is a MUST for laptops. I have never owned a Mac desktop so I can't say, but I've owned PowerBooks, iBooks and MacBooks... (one of each

) and will be getting my first MacBook Pro sometime this year.
In any event, I have had to claim at least once, over the course of 3 years. Either the battery, or the logic board, or discoloured wristpads, etc... laptops are more fragile and take more of a beating so you'll need it.
As for desktops, it's up to you. The cost of labour and parts alone have covered the price of admission for me, over 3 years.
