so ill most likely be picking up my macbook in the next week. acouple of questions though. having come from a pc based lifestyle all my life, i had been acustomed to buying anti virus software. i was told by the guy at the store that running a/v on a mac is not critical, and also watching the mac adds were they say the dont get virus's. fact or fiction?

Currently fact.
There are AV products out there, but they are there to remove files that might infect windows machines when forwarded via email etc which is a very unlikely occurance.

There is actually one good reason to have antivirus software on your Mac -- it will clean any malware-laden emails or downloads, which means anything you send on to Windows users won't be carrying any unwanted (and otherwise un-detected) baggage.
To this end, the free ClamXav does the job perfectly.

That, and one day when a virus does come to OS X and does the rounds, so people who don't run AV will be caught with their pants down.
Plus, I scan my legacy mac stuff for possible infections.

In seven years I have never needed to run any AV software whatsoever. Spend the money on a Mighty Mouse, or Speakers/printer etc.......

What I want to know; Is it possible to install Tiger onto machines shipped with Leopard pre-installed?

To the initial question, some people still need Tiger due to their work and so on. Leopard is still a tad shaky IMO and doesn't work well with everything and to some people having full functionality is top-priority

why does windows sell XP if Vista is out?! it's the same thing with apple. some people can't upgrade while others need the compatibility of the older OS.
the choice should be there...and i'm happy i moved to leopard. it's tasty

Just on this point. When Vista was first released, all the paper adds and catalouges where sprouting "Vista Ready" and comes with vista.
Have a look in the paper today or tomorow, suprising how many don't mention Vista at all now in the adverts, just Blurb XP Home edition or XP proffessional.
That's gotta be as a result of negative market reaction I would imagine. ....Cool
