[Merged] Apple event on 18 September, iTS EU movies / 3G iPhone?
Yes, I'm going there.
I keep maintaining an article on this site describing Apple's release behaviour around product releases, and going by past behaviour (even though Steve's got on stage twice since WWDC already), I reckon there'll be another 'special event' sometime in October focusing on video - namely, updates to the iTunes Store (movie rentals are almost a certainty, as well as expansion to other countries and HD) and upgrades to the Apple TV (which might hopefully move beyond a hobby, and into a real media centre with DVR and HD capability, as well as perhaps games).
I have absolutely no inside sources or reliable evidence - this is purely pie-in-the-sky dreaming based on past behaviour and current conditions. And at the end of the last keynote, Steve uttered the famous words 'we'll see you soon', which always seem to precede another special event in the not-too-distant future.
Anyway, I'm probably way off, but if not - you heard it here first

putting a dvd player in the apple tv would be good. Tv recording would be better Diffrent movie codecs would be sublime. Dvd ripping to itunes would be Better than sex.
But in all honesty thats Not going to happen. Blueray and HD-dvd supporters need to wake up and see that it isnt main stream yet.
ITMS sucks ass in australia and half our devices are crippled. We salavate over our apple products ease of use while going about the most convoluted tortuous way to get video to our devices.
Apple needs to acknoledge this but they wont do anything about it. Sadly

Here's the first sign I'm right: http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2007/09/ap...ed_to_inc.html
I'm willing to make the concession that they might return to the old tradition of doing a keynote at Apple Expo Paris, which will combine the Apple TV / iTunes / iPhone 3G for EU releases.

You need to find a dirtier lady.
At any rate - I have to agree with Ozi. There have been so many hints on Apple making moves with video on the iTMS includin new iPods, the ratings systems in iTunes for countries, the release of the UK Video Store (which also had ratings...) and the rentals blooper.

Wouldn't he just have been referring to Leopard (or Mac OS X 10.5 as I like to call it!)?

They've already showcased Leopard at WWDC - they won't be holding another 'event' to launch it, it'll just be announced and come out sometime in October now that we know all of its features.

I agree with OziMac - if they do a keynote at Apple Expo, it will be for whatever is missing for the holiday season.
edit: and for the record - Hot-tip: Multi-Touch Mac portable to fit between iPhone and MacBook. You heard it here first folks!
We will see an invite early next week if there is to be a keynote. Standard 5-day buzz generation period

I would like to see a revised AppleTV. Just dropping the price a tad and allowing you to install additional QuickTime codecs would be huge.

I doubt we'll ever see PVR in AppleTV - it goes against Apple's business model of selling TV shows.

I guess they are holdign back any iPhone updates to coincide with the Leopard release to include a high level of integration. Seems like the logical thing to do to build desirability for both mac and iStuff.

You are probably right at the moment. But if another couple of distributors try and pull an NBC, then watch out!
I reckon Paris expo for 16 Gb iphone. Not sure about 3G, because it hasn't been on the US Govt approval list thingy yet. I doubt they would offer 3G in Europe and not in the US - it would kill sales for Thanksgiving/Christmas.
They might upgrade AppleTV and ITS at Paris expo too. October would be reserved for Leopard and a new mac or two.

And here's the next shred of evidence that corresponds to my theory:
iTunes movie rentals?

Apple press conference 18 Sept London
Well, well, I wonder what will be announced here then? A tuesday no less. The ipod touch is to be launched worldwide on the 28th, so what could be announced on the 18th? Euro iphones maybe?
