Just for those of us who like to think we have converted another Windows user...
Having owned a Powerbook for 4weeks now, today i took Dad along to the local Apple centre where I bought mine, and he came home with an iMac G5 with 1GB RAM and Airport extreme card.
The main thing that sold him was the lack of virus suseptability with Mac OSX. Was going to get an eMac but that was too big for where he wants to fit it on his desk!!
Cheers
Gerard

Thats awesome, I wish I could get my dad to switch, but he is stubborn and convinced that windows is better because more people use it.
Congrats. So whose going to be using the G5 more, him or you?

Good work Gerard!
My father is the same as the_OM's. I can't convince him to switch even though my sister, brother and I all use Macs. [My sister switched first (currently has a Titanium PowerBook), then me (an eMac), and then my brother (an iBook)].

Well I'm my son's dad and I was convinced to use the Apple IIGS by my son. However my most recent success was talking one of my long term PC using friends into purchasing a G5 tower and cinema screen.

Well - day 10 of my switch & grumpy - my transition from a standard netgear firewall/router to a netgear wireless router has not gone smoothly & indeed having a pause in proceedings to try & work out whats going wrong. In meantime power unit on my "old" PC has gone AWOL so can't transfer much needed files. All in all pretty much on edge at present. Nevertheless pretty happy with my iMac - manginging app files without any complications & the virus & spyware thing are great positives. Also in this Brisbane weather the iMac is so quiet - my PC fan would be a "whirring" laboriously. My old PC was getting slow in part because of all the security/maintenance stuff I had running in background. No partitions, fragmentation etc etc to worry about, ... yet I still feel pretty naked without some of the old PC security stuff, ... but then how do these guys who sell Mac anti virus stuff keep their face straight when they take the money, ...

Gee, I wish I could get some of my family to switch, but they're all too set in their ways.
But I reckon that one of the best things about getting family to switch would have to be getting in touch with them with iChat (even better with tiger!).

Well I intend to pay back my parents' years of supporting me with computers by buying them a Mac Mini with the money from my Tax Return in six months.

Both of my parents bought imacs due to my influence. My 2 PC owning brothers were not very impressed. I now use my 74 year old fathers G4 imac because he never used it, as he complained it is too complicated. I agree with him to an extent, but I am little worried because he used to use a mainframe (i know it had a 030 processor and he used to bring a big reel of tape home each night) without a GUI until about 10 years ago.

I converted to Apple when I went to my new school in 1990 (I'm still there). I was using a XT with DOS (30 meg harddrive which I thought was huge) at the time and the school had lots of //e's and Mac classics. I couldn't believe how easy Macs were to use, install / remove software and they were sooo reliable.
I soon moved on to the Power PC's at school and I loved these at the time but there were so many different models. Thank God Steve came along again and rationalised the model line up.
The first G3 iMacs I got were a revelation and it's only got better from there.
I was not a fan of OSX at first (so slow and lots of features were missing) but with subsequent upgrades I love it now.
I now am the ICT Support Teacher (for 9 years now) at my school. A hobby turned into a job. I have stead-fastly resisted any suggestions of changing to Windoze at my school - change to windoze and find yourself a new ICT teacher - and I meant it.
I not only teach ICT to the kids and teachers but I look after 110 G3 iMacs, 5 eMacs and 24 iBooks plus some crappy pee cees I was given. Our school has 100% wireless coverage and its fabulous.
I use an eMac 1.25ghz with I gig ram and using screen spanning doctor I run two screens like higher end macs. It is fabulous for building webpages etc. The double screen space make life so much easier. My second screen is an 17 inch LG Flatron and it works a treat with the eMac.
I'll never go back even though my 12 year old wants a pee cee because they 'have more games'. I can't bring myself to spend money on a windoze box just yet but I may have to!!! It's enough to bring tears to your eyes.
I have only just found this great forum (I have been using the Macworld US one for a while - but local is better).
Regards Paul

Thanks Hawker - that's another reason that I ended up with a Mac - the help from people on here. Certainly made the decision alot easier to know that there is a place to get advice and help on anything Mac!!
...hmm, think dad will get to use it more than me though. It's very hard to get me off the Powerbook. I've only switched on my PC twice since I got it - both times to burn files to transfer to the Mac!!!
