Telstra to Apple: Stick to your knitting
Some dude from Telstra says we're making a mistake building the iPhone and we should "stick to our knitting." See here. Now, I don't know who this guy is. And I don't see why some refrigerator manufacturer in New Zealand should be telling us how to run our business. But the iPhone is a perfectly natural next step for us. Second, we go into any business we want. And we win. If we want to make Apple iToasters, we will. And you know what? They'll rock. And they'll cost a fortune. And people will line up to buy them. Or watch out, Telstra man. Maybe we'll start making refrigerators, and put you guys right out of business. Put that on the barbie and grill it.

Telstra is an Australian company, not New Zealand.

THe 2 major telco's here in NZ (Telecom and Vodafone) are both itching to get the iphone, they had nothing but good things to say about it. Most likely will go to Vodafone as they suppoort GSM/EDGE, while Telecom does the CDMA/EVDO thing.

For 2 days after it was announced, iPhone was front page news on our lame ass local news paper, and i've seen it several times in the technology section too. So forget about what the bloody aussies say and just boycott their country and send it here first!

Telstra would be far better off making fridges.

On second thought: a Telstra Fridge would be about 4 years behind the market (Now featuring an ICE-MAKER!), take a week to actually cool the items, and once a month the door would fall of it's hinges. Oh, and it'd cost $2000, plus an ongoing $50/month 'coldness rental' - even if you switched to another brand of fridge.
But there would be relentless advertising in all mediums showing how it would make your family fun!

Of course they don't 'get' the iPhone.
Everything they touch turns to turds, so the mere mention of "multi-touch" is enough to send them to group therapy.

Telstra is very much in bed with Microsoft (via partnerships with NineMSN and through FoxTel)... they also have long partnerships with other mobile phone manufacturers... So their response to the iPhone is very predictably backward as per usual...
