Bigpond announcce they are increasing Mac Support

In the latest release of Bigpond Ponderings (their e-mail to Bigpond Customers), they have announced that they are increasing Mac support and seek suggestions from Mac Users.

"We are increasing the amount of help offered to Apple Mac users in the BigPond Help Centre. Please email us with your suggestions for Apple Mac help topics."

A step in the right direction

What kind of additional support is needed for Mac users? I've been helping Mac users on the BigPond dialup helpdesk since day dot. I could never understand the fuss. They're a piece of piss to support.

It's the official stance ... you of all people should know that officiallly Telstra must stay five years behind the technological edge at all times.

How else do you think they could afford to buy last year's tech at bargain prices, tout it to us as "new and revolutionary", then spend three years field-testing it on the poor mugs (ie, us) before deciding its a technology they are prepared to accept because it doesn't require any more than minimal maintenance?

... cynical? Moi? Heavens to murgatroyd!

But, of course! Whatever was I thinking?

Anyone remember the days of the 10.1 modem driver bug on the 019830xxxx network? Happy memories . . . NOT!

Justin Milne from Bigpond sent me an email about a year ago promising improved Mac Support and offered a special phone number that Mac users could ring to get support from people at Telstra who were Mac experts. The trouble was these people didn't know any more about Mac's than any of their other tech support staff.

Like the original poster I received this latest news of increased Mac support in the latest edition of "Ponderings" or whatever it's called. In this issue it had a number of links both for providing feedback as well as links to the Mac support area. The trouble was all the links were wrong and they all just linked to an email address.

Next I went into Bigponds site looking for this new Mac support area. I couldn't find it anywhere. I did a snumber of search's from their support area for terms like "Mac Support", "Apple" etc and got zero results related to any new support offerings. I'm pretty sure the whole announcement is just a PR exercise rather than a change of attitude.

pfft After my sister got told the reason her friends dial up connection wasn't working was due to the fact that "modems get used to being in certain places, therefore if they are moved they may not work" I think bigpond need to just concentrate on helping windows users before even worry about mac users.

Which mac users would even consider being with bigpond anyway? As far as I'm concerned their service and customer support is laughable at best.

When i wanted to get an internet connection i phone Telstra for an appointment with a technician to install my cable modem. I said i used Apple, it went silent for a couple of seconds and the person on the phone said he had to check first if that would be possible.

I thought that was weird..... in Europe it's a common thing already, i guess in Australia we're not there yet
