Hi,

I have an iMac G5 2.0GHz 20" pre-isight (the may 2005 model). It has 2x 512mb ram sticks. I'm wondering whether the performance would increase noticeably if I were to upgrade the ram, and if I should upgrade to 2gb or just 1.5gb?

If anybody has actually done this and can provide real world experiences that'd be really helpful. I"ve read all the crud about matching ram etc etc and I've got a good source of both 1gb sticks guaranteed to work with my imac. Just want to check how others have fared doing the same (assuming I'm not alone)

Any advice, experience, stories to share?

well, this is stretching the memory a little bit as I put in 2gb RAM in my iMac g5 maybe a month after i bought it.

Performance did noticeably increase; I think there'd be little doubt that you'd experience the same. Though I'm not tech-savvy enough to detail what kind of performance hike you'd get over 1.5gb if you went the 2gb RAM.

General rule of thumb, buy as much RAM as you can comfortably afford and as your machine can take.

You and I were waiting for our imacs around the same time iirc.

I can get 2gb for $289... but then I'd have two 512s just sitting around with nowhere useful to put them, and presumably no decent price to sell them at.
