In a rare move, Apple provided a sneak peak of the long rumored Apple media center. Currently without a final product name, it has been codenamed iTV and has the apperance of a flattened Mac mini.
Providing various audio and video outputs, it is intended to be connected to a TV, communicating wirelessly with your Mac or PC and displaying a Front Row like interface for the content on your computer.
Key features:
Built-in power supply (no power brick)
USB, Ethernet and 802.11 wireless connectivity
HDMI, optical audio, component video and RCA (phono) audio outputs
Works with the Apple Remote
The 'iTV' is to be available in Q1 2007, priced at $299.

Wouldn't it be lovely if such a device also had inputs!
Seems no one thinks to go down those paths.
That's what holds me back from some devices.
Just a thought...

Now that's deserves a showtime event! Is it just me, or was Steve hinting at things uncharacteristically because he knew that the event was going to be a bit of a let down? New Nano's are great...but they could've done a lot more with the iPod Video imho. Oh well, no need to upgrade just yet I guess

Only $499 for the 80Gb iPod, that's pretty good, I think now is a good time to buy if you already don't have one. IMHO, they really should have done a bit more with the shuffle and nano's, a small screen on the shuffle would have been awesome, and i'm not sure what's going on with the colours for the nano (cool ad though) - what's wrong with B&W ?

Nothing....except the mini was the most successful single ipod product line...why mess with something that works? Obviously people want colour.

Adding a TV Tuner to iTV would take a big bite out of Elgato, who I think should really look into getting their stuff working on Windows as well.

This was the ONLY thing i was waiting for and looks like ill have to wait till next year
Now in might have to consider the MediaGate MG-350HD. It can handle HD content, 750GB HD and is also wireless. Do i have the patience to wait till next year......

As I said elsewhere, this is possibly a very nice replacement to my modded Xbox which I use to run XBMC. Of course what formats I can get it to stream will be the main problem I'll likely have.

iTV sounds interesting, will watch the stream tonight. Might be something I'd buy, but I guess I will wait and see.

Apple don't want tv inputs! They have a store that has over 200 shows ready for you to whip out your credit card to buy. Its their Foxtel/Cable without the monthly subscription - you pay for the content you want to see. No ads, see whenever you want. If you want free to air, download a video podcast :-)
I know it sucks that *we* (as in everyone outside the US) don't have access to the tv shows yet, but that it is the model that Apple are working towards. iTunes is your one stop shop for music, tv shows and now movies. Guaranteed, at some point streaming tv will be available, so you can watch live sports events, etc.
On the surface, this morning's event didn't seem like much. But underneath......
:-)

I must admin that when I first saw the iTV I wasn't really impressed. Maybe I was expecting some type of PVR or something.
But then it got me (I haven't seen the video yet so I have no idea what Steve said about it), This is just AirTunes for video. In that regard, this unit makes sense.

And it means that all Elgato need to do is be able to add recorded shows to your iTunes movie section
Run the EyeTV application on your computer, and use one or more iTVs for you TV. It's good!
I also think iTV is what Front Row 2 will look like.
