No they won't. The only released version is for developers only and these are the main testers not the general public so Apple would be foolish to release a public BETA.

They did it with 10.0, was that foolish?

10.0 was a once off revolution.
Nowadays its only paying developers who need a preview for the frameworks for up and coming apps that need this. The general public has to either wait, pay the developers fees or resort to less than legal means to obtain the OS.
The original public beta has not been repeated (insert clause for as far as I know).

I'm not talking about 10.0 and neither is this thread based on that OS. That was a complete change in OS from the previous one and at the time, it probably was a needed thing. As for Leopard, I do think it would be foolish for them to release a public BETA as there aren't any major changes in this OS and they're still gaining profit from the developer's release as they are forced to pay for it.

Did apple release betas to normal ADC members for past revisions of OSX? I'm about to get a Student ADC membership, and I'm wondering what the chances of getting a legitimate beta of Leopard are...

Of course Apple will release a public beta of Leopard... it's the first version OS 10.5.1 !
Just like with Aperture.

Close.... it'll actually be 10.5.0. :P
I'd rather beta test Leopard then have microsoft style development schedules!

It is doubtful you will get a beta of Leopard with an ADC student membership.. although you may get a gold master copy eventually.

Apple only pre-release software to developers. One of the major issues Apple have with non-devs using pre-release software is that they consequently get many people calling up for support after someone or other has downloaded the dev release illegitimately and installed it on a friends' or relatives computer. Apple cop the massive cost of providing support to these people despite them using the software in breach of the licence agreements.
