I'm just wondering most of us know that resellers are not really able to discount Apple products so I'm just wondering if anyone got any specials in their purchases? For example extra software, bag etc.

I for one got it on interest free for 3yrs and got NO SPECIALS I only got a bag for cost price <_< just wondering if the rest of you have had more luck

I get all my macs and apple software at Education rate, because I am a student, and also my father is a teacher.

I get all my hard drives, ram, whatever else for the computer at cost, as I work for a computer company, as well as doing part time work for an Apple Reseller. So you can say I do pretty good. For instance, I got:

an STM Bag for 15" powerbook, a sleeve for a 12" powerbook and a 17" powerbook for $60

there are specials around. not long ago we were doing free printer with runout PowerBooks. i won't go on but there are plenty if you know the right places to check out. other places just have generally cheap prices so that its like everything is on special.

thats the thing about interest free..... they give you interest free but will not give you a single cent as a discount.... if your smart you will quickly see that you are in fact paying what ever discount you could have got as interest.

ie i got some stuff from freedom interest free. but if i didn't i could have saved $600 on the whole deal. i don't see that i got it interest free, i instead see it it as me not having to pay for it all up front.

Myer are presently offering free MS Office with iMacs. It's the Student & Teacher edition, so comes with 3 licences.

I know the big retailers don't generally get a good rap for their Mac knowledge, but I was pleasantly surprised to find Chaddy Myer had a permanent Apple "black shirt" (Apple employee) who knew his stuff and shared the passion. They also had an extensive range of Macs and iPods - better than the reseller that I had previously visited.

From what I've heard, these staff in the apple 'black shirt' are actually employed by Apple direct.... That might be why!

Newbie - you need to ask for specials. When I purchased my first iMac in 2000(?), I only got discounted software when I asked for it. When I returned my cooker attachment - err, power supply for my MacBook- to an AppleCentre for replacement, I got a discount off the RRP for an Apple Protection Plan ... all I had to do was ask.

Sometimes, the best specials aren't the ones that they advertise

macmate's also correct - if you purchase on interest free terms, you get no discounts at all. Money in the bank today, is worth more than gradual payments over the course of 12 months - except when the high interest kicks in if you haven't been disciplined enough to pay it out in the interest free period.

DJ's here in Adelaide was offering 15% off superceded iBooks last weekend when I popped in to chat and see the new MacBook. No signs up - just word of mouth from the Apple in store rep (who remembered me from when I bought my iMac last year).

I would have checked the gear out at a local Apple reseller but I needed to go to DJ's for other stuff too.

When I bought my Rev A Imac G5 (Sept/Oct 2004) 1.8 Ghz, they weren't even in the country yet. The reseller I went to was having a sale, so I received the education discount, plus a further 12%, therefore I saved about 22% off the RRP of a brand new product (not even shipped).

Yep my power adapter went on me too two weeks on owning it lucky they replaced the lot just wondering for those that have obviously shopped around is it better to buy Applecare OR buying the shop's extended warranty for example HN's, Domayne and all those stores offer Warranty I'm assuming from their own tech's.

Get AppleCare. Because that way when you take it to a apple repair agent they get priority for parts, and are fully trained in Mac and Mac OS X...

And I'm not sure about the 'other' warranty - I'm guessing that would not be covered with Apple?
