Thumbs up

Hi guys

Just got a "new" Imac g3 600 256 mb ram

Should I install 10.2 on the new imac or keep 10.3.

Ideally has anyone upgraded from 10.2 to 10.3 on a imac g3 600.

I've heard 10.3 loves ram should I get another 256 simm of ram.

I don't really need 10.3 over 10.2.

The thing seems to be running fine now but how much better (Faster) or more reliable will it run on 10.2??

I looked at the system requirements for both operating systems they seem to be identical.

So basically will the thing fly running 10.2 or will it still run at the same speed under 10.3

Thanks in advance for opinions

10.3 everytime. Panther is faster than Jaguar on any machine, but yes - get as much ram as you can afford, as OS X loves the stuff.

i had a g3 imac 500mhz with 256mb ram running tiger with no problem. personally i'd go with tiger but if you don't have that then 10.3 would be preferable over 10.2

of course that's my opinion, which ain't worth that much. but others here can give a knowledgeable account of what's best.

but tiger will run fine on it.

cheers

ok, so disko got in first and his words are worth much more than mine on this matter. fortunately (for me) my speel is not completly off.

ah ram, its got such a purring sound about it, no wonder osx loves it.

10.2 is now poorly supported - a lot of OS X software simply won't run. 10.3 was Apple's effort to improve performance and it is light years ahead in terms of this.

256MB of RAM is enough for the basics of 10.3, but the iMac will like 512MB if you can get it.

Go for 10.3 and as Disko said, it should be faster than 10.2.
And if you can afford throw another 256 stick of RAM.

I have few sticks lying around gathering dust which I can send it to you to see if extra RAM makes difference. PM me for details

10.3.9 runs very very well on my iMac 600, I have 384MB of ram in it though. I don't use that machine much these days, just for spreadsheets and LaTeX

I've got 10.3 running on a 350 iMac with 512MB ram. Seems to be fine for the 9 year old user, just don't try to do too much at once.
