Just got a new iSight that needs to be used with Yahoo Messenger (yeah I know use iChat). just wondering if anyone knows of some third party software or settings that can be used in yahoo messenger to make the video stream a bit better. I have fiddled around with teh web camera settings in yahoo, but they're not that good! Unlike iChat that you can really play with!

And the cross platform capabilites of ichat is crap too ;-)

Anyone know when Skype Video will be on the Mac?

And I don't care if iChat is infinitely better - Beta was better than VHS too ;-)

I guess if it doesn't use its own ports it is crap.

The person on the other end does not have access to iChat.!

can't the person on the other end install AIM? That will run with ichat, you will even have audio as well. I believe there is also another PC client that will do audio/video chat with ichat, but I think you have to pay 25US for that one. I just forgot the name of that messenger.

Or else you could get mercury and chat on MSN, but video quality will be more or less the same as with yahoo.
I use yahoo as well, and I have to say, video isn't great, but it is not any worse than other PC IM programs.

I believe that you can use the Jabber network no matter what platform you're on... I use jabber through the ichat application so I get a free no hassle service with an awesome apple interface... I will be getting an i-sight soonish and have checked into video chats and apparently it works but we'll see.

no, videochat is not supported on jabber. Also no support for file transfer.

The only thing that works well for me is chatting with msn users on ichat. Yahoo transport does not work well at all.. I never tried ICQ though.
