Yeah, I got a powerbook, and the screen is a bit dirty, what's a good method (that wont wreck the screen) on cleaning it? I hear about iklear or whatever it's called (price doesn't bother me, its the time to do so, as i work full time) is there any other recommended methods of cleaning screens? like with windex or some s**t?
cheers folks

I use a little bit of water, and one of those 3M magic cloths... then polish in a circular motion. But my screens are already very clean... not sure if it works well with a dirty screen.

I went into an optomitrist (sp) and bought myself one of those soft cloths that people use to clean their glasses with. Works well.

You can get iKlear direct from the Australian distributor from Soft Connect . It really is the best cleaner and cloths for cleaning Macs in my opinion.

The supermarkets have the microfibre cloths... (which is what the 3M Magic Cloth is)...
They're usually with all the other cloths and scourers etc...
I think it depends on what the screen is dirty with... if it's fingerprints, you'll probably need a chemical or something specifically for cleaning screens (to remove the oil from skin).

Go to Office Works and buy yourself a product by the name of CleanSafe. It comes in a small 25ml spray can. It cleans all types of screens i.e., Laptop, TFT, Plasma, monitor.
It's alcohol and solvent free. Will not damage advanced sreen coatings and has antistatic properties. Does a fantastic job. It costs $19.95
Then go buy yourself a microfibre cloth from Coles or K-mart.
Remember to never spray directly onto the screen. Always spray onto the cloth first and then wipe the screen with it.
Don't go for the gel type cleaners they actually make the screen even more dirty.
Cheers.

I use Straight Isocol (brand name) from a Chemist. It's 65% isopropyl alcohol. LCD manufacturers recommend Isopropyl diluted in a 50% water solution (so 50% isopropyl) but I find the 65% mix works just fine. I use it on my 24" Dell, my 23" Cinema Display, both powerbooks and both 17" Benq's. They come up a treat. I just use a soft cloth (lint free) and wipe lightly and fast so it does not dry streaky. $10 for a bottle of this stuff lasts forever for me and is a damn sight cheaper than iKlear and other products like that which are effectively just diluted isopropyl. Alternatively find a Chemist that sells 100% isopropyl and dilute it yourself. You'll save a truckload but the soft cloth is a must! the Cinema display came with a nice one which I use on all of my LCD stuff.

How To Clean an LCD Panel
This article describes the best way to clean an LCD panel such as those used on PowerBook computers and Apple flat panel displays.
To clean the LCD:
1. Turn off the computer or display. You may need to turn off the computer in order to turn off some Apple displays.
2. Dampen a clean, soft, lint-free cloth or paper with water only.
3. Wipe the screen. Do not spray liquid directly on the screen.
You may also use a mild glass cleaner that contains no alcohol or ammonia. Most office supply stores sell cleaning kits specifically designed for this purpose.
While there are many commercial products available that will work without damaging the plastics, Apple has tested a product called Klear Screen made by Meridrew Enterprises (http://www.klearscreen.com) and found it does not cause any harm to the plastics. This product may not be available worldwide.

Okay, no one shoot me, but I use a tiny bit of dishwashing detergent on a damp, glasses cloth (microfibre), on both the PBs in our house, and they seem to have survived the experience fine.
Definitely need something that removes oils from the skin, so just water, I'm afraid, will not do it.
Might get some isopropyl though, just to be completely safe....
