Hi folks,

Firstly, I'm not sure if I am posting this in the correct area - mods, please move if necessary, thanks.

I've e-mailed a few mp3 files to a friend. Because of a number of reasons, I have had to e-mail these files to her Yahoo e-mail address. When she tries to access these files, they start downloading/opening in QuickTime. When I try the same thing, the files open in iTunes.

The reason that we need to change things is because the files aren't downloading properly in QT and want to see if iTunes will open them correctly.

She is using 10.3.8 and Safari 1.2.4 (v125.12).

On my machines, where I have no trouble, I am using 10.2.8 and Safari 1.0.3 (v85.8.1) or 10.3.9 and Safari 1.3 (v312)

Somehow, I think that it isn't anything to do with Safari, but I don't really know for sure.

Any ideas, please?

Andrew

So when she clicks the download link the .mp3 starts to stream?

What if she option-clicks the link, or right click download linked file?

It might just be her settings for QuickTime/Safari/iTunes.

zip up the mp3s. Or get her to alt+click them to send them straight to the download window.

yep, the file starts streaming.

Option+click gives her some options, but not what program to open/play the file.

I think that it might be those settings, too, but which, please?

alt+click doesn't give options - it sends the file straight to download...

That would be because of the way Yahoo is structured. The best thing for your friend to do would be to set up her Yahoo address to work in Mail. It's pretty straight forward from what I've heard - just do a search on the web for instructions, or maybe someone here can help?

Then she'll receive the files in Mail, and will be able to download straight to her desktop

But why does it work for me when I'm in Yahoo?

I haven't had great success with getting my Yahoo mail in OSX Mail, but I'm willing to be corrected and to learn!!

Cheers,
Andrew

I dont think yahoo uses pop which is what mail needs to access it. I moved to gmail for that very reason (oh... and 2.5gb of storage)
I remember quicktime taking over my music files for a little while. And i think it was just a case of unclicking a preference in quicktime, or clicking the right one in itunes. Something like "make itunes the default music player on this computer" maybe i was hallucinating again, i can't be sure...
I'd also do the "get info" on a mp3 file and "open in application" choose itunes, then "change all".
