nice typography. the home with an underline lets it down, that's all.

Not sure if you clicked the iamge to view the site, but if you see it in context, you might think differently... If not, i'll take it into consideration

It's not linking to the site, unless the "site" is an image.

Is it an optical illusion or is the 'Home' underline slightly off center?

Cool - okay.

Your underlined Home section does not stick when browsing to other parts of the site - if it stayed then I could go with it - but there is no consistency there.

*Edit* Actually - now that I've double checked after reading WLP's post - I like the underlining - it does stick and display where you are. BUT - WLP is right - the under line does appear to be off to the right by a space perhaps.

You've got Mactalk as an item of work - with the site update already hitting the main page and the new forum weeks away I'd be reconsidering that... not because it looked bad - but you'd have to explain why it's not like it now - and that will just be odd.

Inconsistent capitalisation. Another bugbear of mine. "hello! I'm a melbourne" should be "Hello! I'm a Melbourne" or "hello! i'm a melbourne" Make your mind up

5 colours of text on your first page. 2 yes. 3 at a real push. 5 is unforgivable - and I'm not a designer.

Now I know that this looks like I'm being picky and I'd bet that a lot of people would say that I'm being harsh. I agree - I'm being picky and harsh.

There is a lot to like about your site, most of it is good. I'm just highlighting what I would expect my designer mate to pick up on.

Indeed you're right... Unfortunately it's being caused by the character spacing... so it's underlining the 3px of space to the right of the last character... I'll work out some way around it.

Most of those items are just dropped in Need to create decent previews for some of my newer work.

Only reason I did that is because i'm not a fan of the capital M in that font, and I thought the exclamation point balanced the use of the capital I... Might just make the lot lowercase.

Being a smart arse here but black/white aren't colours I see what you mean though... I'll have a play around with some ideas.

Just making sure that you noticed this part.

I'm good at picking out faults - terrible at praising what's good.

very nice looking site - 2 things...

1 - what is the font used for the headling -(very nice)
2 - try using 'typographers quotes' for the apostrophy in "i'm" - it's a pet peeve seeing those straight ones, as opposed to nice '9' shaped ones.

I like the site..

everyone has their own opinion and everyone sees things differently.

The site is really simple and clean which I like.

I for one like the use of multiple colours. But probably stay with that maximum use of colours on that page? Why do you have particlar words in a different colour? obviously I guess is to try and let them pop out of the page and let the viewer know what your can do.

You've repeated the colours blue and orange? or is that yellow? (lol im not great with colours) with the our headings below. If your reason of using those particular colours with print media, web and interface elements were to differentiate or pop out, using those same colours on another element would make those words print media and interface elements not important. I guess using them on other pages wouldn't be too bad as it isn't conflicting with another element on the page.

I know this is an incomplete site but will you be linking your recent work to the actual works or website?

The downloads page... it looks good and I like it, but it feels like something is missing... im talking about the images and the corresponding text... some sort of divider perhaps? i dont know it looks good.. just leave it lol.. the invisible lines between the different elements already act as a divider or space anyway.

I don't think you should mix and match different type faces as euphospug is suggesting.. it would make the commas look out of place then? and the typeface is sort of narrow which a 9 looking ' would look out of place.

Ok, since you asked...

I find the small white-on-black text (as seen on the Services and Downloads pages) extremely hard to read. Compounding this is the anti-aliasing of the font, which wreaks havoc with the typesetting on my display. This also applies to the (larger) section titles on these pages.

Cheers
Steffen.

I like it a lot. Good use of cufon too. I like seeing other designers sticking their fingers up at backward font licensing agreements and using good typefaces on the web.

I don't mind it at all. I especially like that it introduced me to Cufon - I'd never heard of it before, but I just about creamed my pants when I saw it!

I like it!

One thing though, Although you are probably aware of it. I have noticed on the home page you refer to yourself with your real name, on the services page you use GraphicDZNR, thats a little bit odd i find.

Just a couple of things.

1. I like the use of the different colours in the intro, but I felt like I was supposed to click them to find our more, and I couldn't.

2. Your name on the home page (top-left of screen) is showing up as white on light grey. Not sure if this is a browser thing (IE6), but it looks awful!

3. Typo in Services under 'Web Design and Coding' - "using" twice in the last sentence. Also (I guess that makes this 4.), I found that page had a lot of text at a small size, which didn't encourage me to read. I would have skipped it if I wasn't trying to be picky.

5. I love the look of your Folio page. A link to the websites you've designed would save me a google search

6. I love the downloads you've offered, but the pictures are not inside the white frames - again, this may be a browser issue.

7. News and Contact are broken, and I wanted to see more!

Looks great Jesse, I'm sure it'll be kick-A when you're done with it.

Wow, lot of good feedback here!

I think you should kill the underline for the naviagaiton bar, change the font colour of the current nav location text instead, so when you're on 'home' it goes to orange say for example.

You could also make your links at the body part, one colour instead of 5, maybe the same colour as the highlighted nav bar button at the top?

Just some ideas.

Other than that, it looks very good mate, and I'd be surprised if you couldn't get paid work doing these sorts of sites!

Well done.

Jim
