Default Playing Vinyl through MacBook Pro

Hi all. My Hi-Fi system at home is currently out of order, with the Amplifier being repaired. Don't know how long it'll take, but in the meantime i would like to know if there is a simple way to playback Vinyl through my Studio Monitors via my MacBook Pro.

Here's how it would be set up:

Turntable Outputs > Stereo Apogee Duet RCA Inputs > MacBook Pro > Stereo Apogee Duet Outputs > Alesis M1 Active 620 Studio Monitors.

The only problem being that i don't know of any way to apply RIAA EQ to the signal in realtime whilst monitoring within Maestro. Can anyone suggest standalone or plugin style software which will do this for me? Preferably for free??

Cheers

What you got there is a hardware impedance problem. That there is.

Unfortunately, it needs hardware to fix it. Any turntable pre-amp will do the job. Do you have an old amp lying around with pre-outs, or a mixer with turntable ins? Jaycar have a $25 pre-amp. Can't comment on the audio quality.

That Apogee is a nice line-in, so I'd be loathe to suggest the Behringer U-Phono UFO202

It would almost be cheaper to nick down to Big-W and get one of those USB turntables, again with disastrous sound consequences.

I have an old Griffin Powerwave that allows me to do what you are after simply by applying the right EQ to the signal so it should be fairly easy.

This thread < Hydrogenaudio Forums > Does RIAA software Equalizer exist? > claims that Audacity < Audacity: Download > can do it so give it a try.

Thanks, and i did come across that thread, but what i'm looking for is a way to do it all in realtime. Using Audacity would require me to record it, apply the EQ and then play it back. I'm after something far less fiddly. i just wanna plug it in and listen to it!

Oh, and Lachie, the 620's are reasonably good for what i'm doing. i paid about $750 for them nearly a year ago. though i haven't had too much to compare them to, to be honest.

You want one of these:

I use one; cheap, solid, has a grounding pin and is noise-free. Just have to be careful with the outputs as they can get a little 'hot' (+14 dB).

Or a Griffin iMic, but they cost also - like $80.00 or so.
