It's great the mini is the most efficient , that's what I have now, but they don't factor in the monitor you have to use with it, then it bumps it up with the others.

I'm just curious as to how these compare to the PowerBook G4 processors (coz I own one) and the G5 macs, to see how worse of us PPC users are. I think there's a comparison chart somewhere in the early Intel days but CBF!

Still an Apple fan but cannot forgive them for pulling FireWire support from the MacBooks!

Excluding the people who can't see beyond their ignorant own world views, thanks to everyone for the kind words.

It would be very interesting to see how things like a G4 compared to current machines, sadly I only had the current data from Apple available.

It is interesting to see how much more power an iMac uses compared to a MacBook, but as others have already said, they are quite different when it comes down to it. Screen inches is also a big one. Look at the difference between a 20" and 24"...

I must say I care!, and anybody young enough to live for another 20+ years is sure as hell going to wish other people cared when the time comes!!

So if you're happy about destroying the planet well then good for you, but don't rip on people who actually want a half decent planet to live on in the future!

I really dont think using a macpro over a mini is destroying the planet.

Running the thing full tilt for a year costs $240 your TV uses more lol and how many machines are crunching numbers 24/7 not many! I care about the environment but really dont think the difference is that large.

Would be interested however to compare these figures against maybe some Dell or HP desktop and laptop PC systems to see how they compare.

Just on the note of running cost, it is my strong personal opinion that we do not pay the full cost of energy for a number of reasons. I personally think we should see energy costs more like 30c per kWh which take in the true cost of fossil fuel energy. If so we would very quickly see a shift away from the recklessness that energy use currently gets treated with. For example, a guy I work with lectured me one day about how instead of installing a motion sensing light outside his house so he can see when he gets home from work, he just turns the outside light on before we leaves for work, lets it burn all day, and then it is on when he gets home - when energy is so cheap people don't care enough to see how bad things like that is. At the end of the day $ is what speaks, not the environmental impact of peoples energy usage, so logically, double the price, half the usage....
