1. I was aware of the ambient noise reduction, but I didn't know about the 'internal' noise (if I can call it that) they create when you seal your ears correctly. Footsteps, cable brushing against your clothes, even stuff like clearing your throat all comes through loud and clear. Took me by surprise actually! Having said that though, the noise reduction itself is excellent. Make sure you use the right tips though, otherwise you get pitiful bass. When sealed the bass is adequate, but nothing beats a good pair of headphones. If you like thumping bass, you might be a little disappointed.
2. The mic quality is better, probably because they relocated the mic closer to your face than the stock apple buds. The button being lower down the cable though? Eh, I'm not sold on that. I would've preferred them to integrate the mic and switch into a single box. A quick word on the switch quality; it's single sided, but it's a good solid click, not really squishy or anything.
3. The hard case you get with it is excellent. I love having a headphone case; I was always fumbling with tangled headphones from my pocket. Having a case means you skip all that awkwardness.
I paid $160 for mine, and so far have been very happy. I was originally going in thinking the Etymotics were for me, but read up on the UE line and decided to give them a go instead. So far so good.
