Speck SeeThru case for iPod Touch

The iPod touch has a reputation for indestructibility - but is it deserved? It's a pretty big risk to take with your new toy. If you're the risk-averse type, this case's tight fit and responsive screen cover make it worth checking out.
by Toby Nieboer

I'm more of an iPhone man myself, but my dad volunteered up his iPod Touch when I was sent the Speck SeeThru for testing. It must have worked out though - three weeks later, he's still using it.

There are four pieces in the package: the front, back, screen protector and belt clip. Assembly is relatively easy - you place the Touch into the back piece, then the screen protector over the front of the Touch (it fits the screen contours perfectly), then snap the front piece into place. This part is a little dicey, in that you have to exert a little bit more pressure than seems safe.

Once it snaps in though, your Touch experience is completely unchanged. As you can see in the picture above, the hard, coloured shell leaves the screen, home button and lock buttons uncovered. The screen is just as responsive (and visible) as ever despite what feels like a thick, rigid plastic cover. The shell fits perfectly with no wiggle room whatsoever.

The packaging on the Speck shell I reviewed made mention of the included clip's function as a stand, and the belt clip does lock into an open position to make this possible. However, this only works if you're standing the Touch upright in the portrait display mode. When tilting the Touch sideways into landscape mode - the orientation in which the Touch plays video - the belt clip does not function as a usable stand. This may be the reason the Speck site does not currently make mention of this function.

All in all, if you're going to use a cover for your iPod Touch then the Speck SeeThru is the best one I've seen.

Hmmm I have got a red speck case for my MBP, maybe a matching speck case for my iphone would be nice ;p

Unfortunately I think with my bodyguardz on the way I have made my decision for now... They do have 2 in a box tho, if i don't like it initially i can still try other cases.

Cases are like socks you seem to end up with huge collection of them

The site show's the iPod Touch with the Speck case in landscape mode.

Speck SeeThru iPhone 3G Hard Case is its Own Movie-Viewing Stand

Speck SeeThru iPhone 3G Hard Case is its Own Movie-Viewing Stand

Quote:
Speck's See Thru Hard Shell case for the iPhone 3G is one of the few cases I've seen that makes me go "Oh, interesting" instead of "bah, nonsense." Firstly because it's simple, just snapping in two polycarbonate parts around the sides and rear of the phone, with rubberized grips so it doesn't slip out of your mitts. Secondly, when you've snapped it in two, one half remains snugly on the phone will the other half acts as a stand, perfect for impromptu movie-viewing. And that's just neat. It's in a variety of colors for $30.
