Mine didn't say it wasn't valid or anything. I guess I will wait one or two days and see if it is still processing or not. My limited warranty runs out on the 25/07/08 so I'm kinda pushing it for time lol. I'm sure they would still approve it as I submitted it before the standard 12 months was up.

AFAIK, it is not included and clearly stated (verbally or on a notice) that you are responsible for data recovery/backups before giving your machine in for service. Otherwise, they may charge you a fee if you wish to have this service performed.

This is from Next Byte though and I have been told the same from the Apple Store Sydney, re: back up your stuff/we are not responsible etc.

Just to let everyone know that I purchased an APP for my Macbook Pro off US eBay on Monday morning. Got an email this morning containing the AppleCare Protection Plan Certificate. So it only took about 48 hours for the plan to be processed and activated.

Cost about AU$250, code was sent via email, coverage until July 2010. Alot cheaper than the AU$579 RRP here

Wow. So I guess it's global. And not region dependent.

Question - what is the disc supplied with APP all about? And more importantly, do I really need it? I am about to sell my MB and transfer my APP to the seller. Will be giving them the box with the disc as well.

I have purchased a new APP for my MBA electronically, and they only supplied me with the code, no box. Will I miss this disc?

It has Techtool Deluxe on it (which is nowhere near as good as Techtool Pro). You can live without the disc, because you can download the program from https://support.apple.com/techtooldeluxe/ when you punch in the serial of the APPed laptop...

Cheers

That's all I need (just in case, I hope I never will need to use it!)

The cost associated with the AppleCare Protection Plan can be quite steep, especially for the budget conscious student, or the working class family. So it's not a decision taken lightly by. This article aims to help you decide if it is worth it for you or not.
I never thought that APP was worth the money - however with my recent troubles with my G4 PB 17" (vertical lines on the screen) - which, by the way, Apple admitted was a known fault and after 6 months of "negotiation" and the involvement of the Sydney Morning Herald they repaired - I'm beginning to see the value.

Although APP won't cover things like accidental damage, theft, etc. For example, my wife's 15" G4 PB had a glass of wine spilt on it a few weeks ago which took out the motherboard and screen (bloody think had survived coke and coffee before !!). I claimed it against my household insurance and, as the repaid bill was $3900, the NRMA replaced it with a 15.4" 2.4GHz MBP.

Which is now mine, BTW - she has the 17" G4...:-) (ouch.... ducks)

The only problem I have is that after obtaining the replacement quote from NextByte at Baulkham Hills, they insisted on getting their own quote from NextByte and "our own supplier" - their supplier just happened to be a company that is NOT an authorised Apple reseller and was undercutting everyone else by at least $300.

Fortunately NextByte matched the price and they got the sale - otherwise the insurance company would have insisted on using their supplier. If their supplier bought from an authorised distributor then the warranty would have started fromthe day they took delivery - and if it sat on their shelf for 6 months, I would have received a 6 month warranty only.

Just be careful with insurance.....

Yeah it is worldwide for Macbooks. I haven't had to call or go to Apple for support yet. Haven't had any issues with it *touches wood*. I got it because my Limited Warranty was just about to run out.
