I was going to get an APP over eBay for my Macbook Pro, but this comment got me worried - anyone know if there's any problem getting an overseas one now?

I got mine last month or the month before for my MBP and didn't have a problem.
Saved myself $300 and it registered fine.
Good luck!

I got my first Mac, the 2.6 MBP last month and purchased the AppleCare from eBay for AU$260 - got it activated and even checked with Apple, all working fine.

Okay, I'm giving it a shot. I've purchased a MacBook Pro APP from these guys. US$23 seems pretty good.

Problems with registering it, but I'm not sure if it's related to the means of purchase or just a coincidence: when I go to register (on the Australian site), it takes me to the US site before I've even had a chance to enter my details. The country is listed as United States, and it won't let me go on to the next step until I put in a US address.

Of course I could put in a fake one, but I'm concerned that would come back to bite me if/when I need to call on the protection plan.

Is this what you guys got? If so, how did you get around it?

US$23 seems really, awfully cheap for a MBP APP . . .

Note: post #48 (scroll up) says Liski got it for AU$260.

Maybe it is a typo.

It should be $235 USD from Mac-Pro.

@Paul Talk to the seller/Mac-Pro about it. You shouldn't have any trouble registering unless that post above is true (that they have recently cracked down on it and are issuing country-specific APP codes).

Yup, sorry, it was a typo. $235.

I'll get in contact with MacPro. Liski, you're wrote that you'd got the same product from MacPro in March - did you encounter this problem? Or is this new?

Sometimes when you try and register AppleCare online, you get in this stupid US/Australia loop that you can't get out of.

I'm with decryption here, just register it on the phone!

Any luck registering it mate?

Am currently debating whether to purchase Applecare for my Mum's Mac Mini through E-Bay or from Apple. The price difference is quite substantial but, given I'm moving overseas, I don't want her getting any grief from a service centre about whether the Applecare is legit.

International warranty only applies for portables, so even if you purchase the APP, you won't be able to get it serviced under warranty overseas. APP only extends the existing warranty which would be at the country of purchase.

Just did it now - had to wait until I had a period free without interruptions (hard with having a toddler!)

Worked fine. The woman at Apple was expecting a number starting with 5030, and was mildly surprised when mine started with 5040 - maybe that's the regional coding? But it went through fine.

Thanks to all for your help!
