Just set preferences to display 20 posts per page (or some other number so that post 30 & 31 are on the same page!

I chose not to go with an APP for my new MBP 17"
If I did not have specific insurance that covers it for theft and faults/failures i would have taken it up in an instant though

laptop insurance was discussed here:
Insurance for laptop
a couple of things to be watch out for re APP:
- the 1 year word class support is only available if you buy APP within the first 90 days
- the serial numbers for APP vary across asia (incl australia) vs the usa- this seems to be a recent thing, and i wonder if it means those ebay usa APP's might not be honoured here?

I can confirm that the new laptop APP covers the MacBook Air; I bought the APP when I got my MBA, and when I registered it online, it knew my serial number was a MBA and registered the APP accordingly.

Agree. two major repairs within one year warranty and other two covered by APP for my rev A MBP already proved everything.

My wife's macbook is nearly at the end of its one year warranty so we were thinking of buying APP to extend it. Thing is, the laptop was bought when we were living in France from the french online apple store.
Does anyone know if it's a problem if we buy the APP in Australia rather than from France?

Applecare is definitely worth it. My wife's Macbook Pro has been replaced DOA, logic board replaced, fans replaced, and is in for repair again (another fans issue)... it's already covered the cost of the Applecare! Don't get me wrong, it's pricey ($570 for the MBP when we paid I think), but worth it.
I probably wouldn't get it for ipod/appletv, etc however, these are fairly cheap devices anyway...

Ive always bought AppleCare for any mac that Ive bought. Ive only ever had minor hardware problems but its very handy knowing that if something does go wrong its fixed.

NOTE: AppleCare does not cover consumables. Batteries can only be replaced if they have a manufacturing defect within the first year.

Speaking of "credit where credit is due"...
decryption actually added some stuff to my article, like pictures so it wasn't so boring.
The bit about credit card insurance? decryption.
Grammar correction? decryption.
bullet points? decryption.
So, thanks decryption! I'll try and make the next one not so boring.
Not sure how to format the images like you did, though.

Hey cheers for the Info Guys! much appreciated.
i just purchased imac applecare on e-bay from apple.batt for $130 thats $140 saving!!
eBay My World - apple.batt
his user rating is 100% from 1096 purchases.
however, when i went to do the confirmation from apple at the end it said 'keep receipt to prove validity. etc' so i was just wondering if
a) the ebay/ paypal receipt is adequate or;
b)what the chances are of getting asked to show a receipt to nextbyte if i take my imac in for repair
thanks.

I'm a bit suss on APP. I've had three G4 notebooks and on my second MBP (plus the lovely lady has had 2 PBs and now a MB). I've never had APP and I'm glad. The only problems I've had on my machines are popping HDDs.
Let's see.
1. 150gb replacement drive: $126 (pricey, I was in a hurry)
2. 1 T6 Torx screwdriver $10
3. 1 Phillps head (came with the HDD): free
4. One ifixit guide - free.
Total HD replacement: $136 and half hour of my time (plus another half-hour after screwing up the Bluetooth connectivity!).
I lost a HD when I was in the US (graunch) and for $255 I got my HD replaced, with Tiger on it and a new LCD into the bargain. The LCD hadn't bothered me, so again, APP wouldn't have been worthwhile. $579? Hmm...I'll risk it.
On the insurance front, my RACV home insurance covers my wife's MB for around $20/month, with no excess if something goes awry. Pricey, but the reason she had 2 12" PBs is because one got trashed when a 120kg set of drawers fell on it and the second came with insurance. :-)

I've had 3 powerbooks, three imacs, 2 ipods and a G4 tower over the last 9 years.
I paid for Applecare on all but the ipods and never had to call on it. I would have to say that it was worth it, in all that time I was covered and slept well at night.
I now have a faulty iphone on its way to the States (hardware problem) on the off-chance that a friend in LA can get it sorted and wish that it was covered under Applecare.
