Those would be the same ones which store your mobile number and flog them off to premium SMS companies who then start sending you messages which cost you money even though you think you did not ask for them.

oops, back on topic.

The iPhone will come... when it comes. It will be unlocked... or it won't. And if Apple is going to be a complete ass about the existing unlocked phones (which it should keep in mind would not otherwise have been sold so its profit is NOT at issue here, its made more than it should have...) then I am probably going to sell mine - or box it - and just get an ordinary phone.

iFatigue has struck here, too.

Suppose it doesn't make any sense to give things away soo easily if they aren't getting anything out of it.

This could mean nothing, but I've spotted this in the overview section on .mac accounts. And yes It's from the Au store - link here

I read in the Brisbane MX Paper that the marketing laws in australia are to thank for the no contract lock in for iPhone.

Under one of the Australia Marketing Acts for fair dealing, A business cannot force a customer or consumer to deal with a second or third party business... I think thats what it said. Unlike America and the UK the Australian marketing laws are the best!

Not to be rude, but I think this has been covered already.

Sorry - I followed a link from iPhone Australia site and read this and decided to make an account to comment on just that... i'm sorry if it's already been said but not many people know about the australian fair trading acts and how that puts australia in a better position with iphone dealings unlike USA or UK who do have lock in contracts.

In practice, third line forcing happens all the time with the ACCC's consent:
Quote:
If it is not possible to restructure the supply arrangements for practical or commercial reasons, it may be possible to gain statutory exemption from prosecution through the ACCC's notification procedure. Under this procedure, notifications are required to be in a prescribed form detailing the proposed conduct and the relevant participants. The cost of lodging a notification is $1000 for public companies and $100 for proprietary companies. The ACCC applies a "net public benefit" test to determine whether to allow immunity from prosecution. Immunity from prosecution is automatically granted 14 days from the date of lodgment unless, within the 14 day period, the ACCC notifies the parties otherwise. While the ACCC may remove the immunity at any time, it must provide notice to the parties and have a pre-decision conference before removing that immunity.
Five things you need to know . . . third line forcing

I think we can all agree that a) none of us are lawyers (except those of us who are) and b) Apple have some very well paid lawyers on staff who ensure no laws are contravened. So this sort of talk is irrelevant and let's move on.

I know I'd pay $1000 just to get thousands more in profit.

Just doing my pre-bedtime Apple related site checks and I've come across an article that I think may vanish if the Apple Legal Ninja's are alert.

Macrumours has an article about Alu Macbooks and a new iMac like MBP in quad core style. However of interest to this topic is the array of pictures at the bottom of the article, specifically the 3rd picture.

Now as they've said there is an awful lot of crap out there - and this may be some of it... but then it may not be.

As they used to say "the truth is out there..."

despite my earlier skepticism i have to admit the rumours appear to be genuine,

a source of mine who works at Apple in the states says we are getting the 3G phone, probably June but dependent on Europe.

another source tells me that when asked, the VP of Apple confirmed a 3G release this summer to the Deputy PM of Malaysia.

also seems pretty certain the MB's are getting an aluminium case, although i think that was fairly well known anyway.
