I'm wondering say Optus or who ever get's to sell the iPhone can I get a contract with them so I kinda get the iPhone for free.
I know it says "no lock in contract" on the first post. Just curious.
Thanks,

I was thinking about this on the bus today.. Each carrier could make their own .app for their carrier services! i.e. Planet Three, or Vodafone Live, or Optus Zoo... now that'd be awesome!!! Especially if it's AFTER you purchase the iPhone.. that way, if you go with a certain carrier, you still get the things you need to access from those services.

does anyone know roughly how much a minimum memory iPhone (8GB I think) will cost AU? Is the screen a fingerprint magnet?

Doesn't any1 else think the part about 'No lock in contracts' part is a bit rubbish? Apple cant tell the telcos if they can lock them into contracts or not, especially if there is no exclusive deal, surely Optus, Telstra or Vodaphone will make those decisions.

Not if Apple and/or resellers are selling the phone directly, unlocked and unsubsidised.

I want an contract!!! Least I don't have to worry about saving up, but I may as well start if there will not be any contracts.
P.S Welcome to MacTakl!

But you still have to go on a plan with a telco, and yes they do offer no lock in contract now any way but some plans still require some sort of commitment, if say Optus come out with a iPhone plan whats to stop them makeing it a 12 month contract?

Well...
You: I have an iPhone, life is good, etc.
Telco 1: It's a one year contract on our iPhone plan.
You: Fine, I'll stick with my current plan. Or I just won't tell you I have an iPhone at all.
Telco 1: We can check what handset you have and if it's an iPhone we'll make you go on contract.
You: Shit.
Telco 2: Hey, no contracts over here!
You: Sweet!
Or...
You: I have a prepaid SIM!

Fair enough, the fact that its in the article just makes me think that its a bit bogus, like its some ones ideal situation for the iPhone release instead of actual fact

I believe that the no contract part of part statement was alluding to the fact that Apple themselves won't partner with any single australian mobile provider in order to force buyers into a contract like in the USA with AT&T. Whether the individual provider offers a contract is up to them. Viva la competition!

I think that it would be impossible for apple to deal on a locked-in exclusive contract with any provider on the planet, given that over half the iphones sold have been hacked and are being used off contract.
It would just be a very foolish business choice for any provider.
So either no lock-in or exclusivity, or apple has to ibrick all off-plan phones.
I know which one I am hoping for.
