As a fellow PC guy who is now on a mac, I'm going to have to suggest some changes to what you wrote.

OSX 10.1 - 10.3 VS Windows XP SP2: While OSX was starting to catch up in my opinion Windows XP offered more bang for the buck.
OSX 10.4 VS Windows XP: I know this sounds repetitive but the point I am making is that for some reason Microsoft was fast asleep while Apple actually realised they had a dud with OS9 and steadily improved OSX.
OSX 10.5 VS Windows XP VS Vista: OSX 10.5 in my opinion was the nail in the coffin and made me switch...

Yep, that's right ... the only changes I could find were mere spelling changes and a space before a forward slash. In other words, I couldn't agree more with your sentiments.
That said, I am yet to actually install windows on this imac as I'm having trouble finding a reason to even though I've already set aside a partition for it. When I get a mac laptop I definitely will as 99% of my work is in windows environments and for some reason I don't feel comfortable in VM's. I've been known to remote desktop to a VM running on the same machine purely to get around this comfort factor and improve my productivity - and yes, I know I can switch the VM to full screen.

Part 3 in the series 'From Win32 to Cocoa' I mentioned earlier has now been published.
Also, it now appears to be a four part series.

The test of Real Professionals

When you specialise, you end up knowing more and more about less and less until you know everything about nothing.

All the more to defer to those who DO know or at least have hands on experience and to be somewhat circumspect in damning that which they know little about.
Particularly when these so called professionals work in educational environments and spread their ignorance to the next generation. My nephew comes home from school with the most superficial knowledge but quick to damn Macs. Meanwhile the real professionals at ITidiots, com are switching and producing their PC vodcasts on Macs!

OK, probably not one to my better analogies but you get the idea.

hm, close. I think it's like nuts, you don't enjoy them at first, but if you have a hand full a day for a couple of weeks you transition from not really liking them to enjoying them.

If we can get you all to switch at the same time, we can get Bill to clutch his chest and say "I felt a disturbance in the force .. as if millions all switched from Windows at the same time .."

MissionMan - EXCELLENT writeup! As a recent Mac convert/switcher, my sentiments echo true with your observations. It's the attention to detail and quality build of BOTH hardware and software that won me over (and trust me, I was gunning for VISTA only before!)
I am waiting for the day my work colleague's husband (who's an IT networking specialist) will switch to Mac.
He says if he had the extra cash (it always comes down to this), he would gladly switch. He even convinced two of his mates and his father to get a MacBook instead of a generic laptop with Windows Vista/XP...and all this without him ever owning a Mac! Now, that's a potential switcher story waiting to happen!!
I think it boils down to the simple fact that users are generally fed up with Windows and their crap. I've had one friend (who's also into IT) buy my white MacBook for his wife. And they are utterly rapt with Tiger. Imagine if showed them my shiny MBA with Leopard!
I also have two friends undertaking their PhD - both fed up with Vista (one bought the new Asus Vista machine - and you should see us trying to transfer files between the two via bluetooth) and she can't stand it.
And yes, my other PhD friend didn't know you could run Windows on a Mac. I do think this is a missed opportunity for Apple. They have done well with publicising running Microsoft Exchange on the iPhone 3G - and the enterprise has SNAPPED this up quickly. So why not with their Mac line?

SAP is also available for the Mac platform, GUI frontend.
Though you probably knew this, MissionMan. I did a course last semester at uni entirely on SAP. Interesting subject. I came 1st.

Yeah, SAP Gui 710 is available on OSX, but to be honest, its not as complete as the Windows Version and you need to test things like Office Integration in the native environment I don't use the OSX version (It is installed). I also need the specific environments setup for customers, so this would mean modifying my OSX settings everytime which is what i am trying to avoid, its the main reason I work in the VM's...I can have a separate VM with separate network config for each customer.

Apple uses SAP.
In fact Apple Inc is the largest single instance, global user of SAP.

Thats surprising to hear with some of the mining houses out there, but with BHP in the process of merging all of its systems into a single instance, I don't think Apple are likely to hold on to that accolade for long.
