iGrip iPhone Car Holder Review

I looked around for a iPhone holder, and the best one I could find was the iGrip Custom Fit Cigarette Lighter Mount for iPhone.
It arrived today, and I decided to take some photos for the mactalk crew.

First Impressions.

The neck is very hard to be adjusted, feels like you are going to break it when you are adjusting it, but once you've got the position right it'll be fine.
Head was a little hard to tighten, but that just may be because of where my cigarette lighter is. Product does feel a little on the cheaper side.
Excellent whilst driving, no more taking the eyes off the road trying to find my iPhone

Pros

• Does exactly what it says it's meant to, holds your iPhone.
• Prevents you from digging around trying to find your iPhone.
• Snug fit, so it won't fall out when you hit those speed bumps too fast.
• Both ports are accessible when phone is inserted. (Not sure about bigger/thicker dock connecting ones though, tested with just an apple cable)

Cons

• No padding to protect your iPhone, when sliding it in and out. I'm guessing I'll be seeing marks on my phone soon. (I'll update this in a week or so, and let you know how it's holding up)
• Does not charge the iPhone.
• A little hard to fasten in the cigarette lighter.

Verdict
All in all I give it a 4 out of 5: Click the image to open in full size.

Update: iPhone has held up extremely well, with only slight scratches on the black plastic part of the iPhone as a result from using the holder.

NOTE: This holder is designed for the 1st Gen iPhone, and most likely will not be suitable for the iPhone 3G.

How do you go, playing music through the car? Do you get that repeater sound thingy?

I've just got a 'tape deck to 3.5mm jack' that i plug into my iPhone (via the little extender).

What's the repeater sound thing you mentioned?

Like that sound you can hear through your radio just before the phone rings. Happens rarely these days.

Oh yea, I did get that once (in the short time I've had the holder)

I'll be sure to let you know how it's going in a couple of days time.

Awesome work mate It's a cool looking holder, I should post pics of the one I scored from my work.

Moved to Articles and Reviews. Feel free to post straight into that forum next time. I will put this up on the front page tomorrow as well

You never know. If you're parked on a hill, you'd rather have your car in drive rather than park But nice one disko!

Nice Disko. I would throw out the melways, but I don't have a data plan set up for my iPhone yet, I'm still on prepaid, and the price per kb is outrageous.

Haha, I actually took the photo in my garage, I just put it in drive to simulate the driving effect

that's a nice Ex Taxi you have there, the iphone would be worth 3 X the car value. make sure you don't leave the iphone or the cradle in clear view once you park your car. Thieves are targeting suction cup marks on cars looking GPS style devices.

iGrip Custom Fit Cigarette Lighter Mount - iPhone Vehicle Mounts - Everything Store: I searched around for a while, but at all the stores they're the same price. Shipping was very expensive, like $40 or so..
