I found this on CrunchGear - The Little App Factory has an app called iPodRip and they received a letter from Apple's lawyers telling them to change the name because it infringes on the iPod.
John Devor, The Little App Factory CEO wrote a detailed email to Steve Jobs asking for help with the issue. Jobs replies with this pearler: "Change your apps name. Not that big of a deal. Steve Sent from my iPhone" Steve, always to the point. Mean? Appropriate? What do you think?

I really like the accuracy of his reply. There's no mincing about, no apologies, just what he is thinking. I should do that more often when I reply to emails. They aren't essays, just get the message across.

"Dear Steve, give me a 27" Imac or I'll leave a flaming bag of turd on your front doorstep".
"On it's way".

Personally I think "Sent from my iphone" = "Look at me I'm a huge wanker". It was the first thing I removed when I got my iphone. If you don't have the time or inclination to type an email out properly on your iphone, wait until you get home and do it on a proper keyboard. But don't make excuses for a short terse email.

'sif Steve would misspell app's. The name belongs to the app, so an apostrophe is required.

Steve would make sure his emails were correct, even if they were composed on an iPhone. Perhaps the email was from steve, but I don't think it was written by him; plainly the work of a semi-literate twenty-something. Perhaps he's got a PA who sends out dictated emails on his behalf pretending to be sent from his iPhone. |

Apple themselves used the slogan "Rip. Mix. Burn." for iTunes so I doubt they would have as much of an issue with that part of the name compared to the "iPod" bit.

All the recipient has to do is check what program the sender was using whether it was really sent from the iPhone. It's all stored in the header information of the email. |

On a personal level the man suffers a lethal combination of overweening arrogance based on immense wealth and power in addition to unparalled drive and uncompromising vision.
Love his products. Wouldn't like to be stuck in a lift with him.

I'm glad that a company such as Apple has the culture to keep things short, simple and straight to the point. When people ends an email with "Best Regards", or when people greet you with "How are you", etc... do they really mean it? |
