Everytime an Apple event comes around the same questions always come up, when is it? is it streaming live? where can I watch it?
So, to hopefully cut down on the number of posts asking these questions, in what seems to be becoming a tradition, I'm going to answer them all here, as I did at MacWorld and the OS 3.0 Event. When is the Event? The event will be occurring at 10am San Francisco time on Monday 8th June. In Australia this is at the following times on Tuesday 9th June: Perth at 1:00am Darwin at 2:30am Brisbane at 3:00am Adelaide at 2:30am Canberra at 3:00am Melbourne at 3:00am Hobart at 3:00am Sydney at 3:00am Due to confusion I will make this perfectly clear: 10:00AM Monday in San Francisco is 3:00AM Tuesday in Sydney. In other words, if you sleep normal hours, the keynote will be occurring between the time you go to sleep Monday night and the time you wake up Tuesday morning. If you are really helpless (you wouldn't be the first), then purchase Bjango's Darkness (iTunes link), add San Francisco, and on the week of June 8, wait until you see this: ![]() Does Apple stream the event live? No, Apple hasn't streamed an event live for many years. Who will be delivering the keynote? With Steve Jobs on medical leave until late June, he will be unable to deliver the keynote as he has done in years past. Instead, according to Apple's press release, "a team of Apple executives, led by Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, will deliver the keynote". In all likelihood this team of executives will include Scott Forstall, Apple's head of iPhone software, to talk about iPhone OS 3.0, and Bertrand Serlet, Apple's head of Software engineering, to talk about OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard. Although the only confirmed speaker so far is Phil Schiller. Will Apple make a video of the keynote available? Apple hasn't announced plans to release a video of the keynote, but then again, they never do. They haven't failed to release a video for an event since at least 2006 (when I started paying attention). When will they make the video available? Assuming they are going to release a video, which they most likely will, it's impossible to predict when the video will be available as the time of release has never been consistent in the past, undoubtedly due to the differing run times of the keynotes and the fact the video has to be manually edited before being uploaded. Last WWDC's (June 2008) video was made available late afternoon in the US. While no exact time can be given, since it's never the same, it's a pretty safe bet it will be available by midday Wednesday wherever in Australia you live. How can I get the Keynote video when it is made available? Once the video is made available, a link might appear on the front page of Apple.com and most likely on Apple's events page. Alternatively you can subscribe to the Apple keynotes podcast (iTunes link) using iTunes. If you are working or at school, or want to watch the keynote spoiler-free, subscribe to the podcast and set it to refresh every hour, and it should be ready for you when you get home. Each keynote is usually between 500 and 1000MB, so if you choose this method be aware that iTunes will download the most recent episode (OS 3.0 Event) and then the WWDC keynote when it becomes available. MacRumors usually offers a service that will email you when the video is made available, to avoid spoilers, but the sheer number of people that sign up to it, coupled with the fact the email can't be sent until a human (with other things to do) sees it, means that it could be hours until you get the email notifying you the video is ready. The podcast method is much more reliable. Is there any way to follow the keynote live? Since no official video or audio streams of the keynote will be available, the most reliable way to follow the keynote is to follow the liveblogs. For those who don't know, a liveblog is a webpage that is constantly updated with impressions and photos of the keynote by people from the audience. Engadget will be live blogging the event here. gdgt will be live blogging the event here. Gizmodo will be live blogging the event here. MacRumors will be live blogging the event here. 9to5mac will be live blogging the event here. ArsTechnica will be live blogging the vent here. Also, MacTalk itself will be offering live coverage in the form of a live podcast and a live text feed. There will also be a chat room available to discuss the event as it's happening. Just head to the MacTalk homepage on the night for more information. What is Apple going to announce at this event? Apple has not announced what they keynote will be about, however WWDC 2009 is focusing on Apple's new OS, 10.6 Snow Leopard, and iPhone OS 3.0, so we can expect quite a lot of information on these products during the keynote. While Apple has not officially announced anything, it is widely expected that Apple will unveil a new iPhone model for release late June/early July. While the specifics of the new model are unknown, it is rumoured to feature more memory, a faster CPU, more RAM, a digital compass and an improved camera with video support and auto focus.

And Phil Schiller is presenting the keynote. Interesting, though not unexpected!
Can't wait to see it in person

Thankyou daylight savings, I hated staying up until 3:30am just for it to start. 2:30am is much nicer.

And aside from a few photos (and icons) relating to the new iPhone casing, no real trolling on the part of rumor-mongers. God I remember the good old days before all these iPhones newby converts were around...
