Earlier today, Apple released the 2.0.1 software update for iPhone and iPod Touch owners. The update weighs in at a massive 249.1MB and is available through iTunes right now. This update was perhaps one of the most anticipated after a range of issues and complaints about 2.0. Users who have installed the update are reporting better performance and that many previous issues have been resolved. Interestingly though, some users are also reporting issues with the updating carrier settings after installing 2.0.1. Be sure to post your experiences, thoughts or problems in the thread.
A note for 'non-legitimate' or first generation iPhone owners;
this update apparently also updates the iPhone baseband, meaning that it may not be unlockable in the future if updated through the official method. DO NOT update at this time. The iPhone Dev team have said they are currently working hard to push out an update to the Pwnage tool that will enable those of us without official iPhones to upgrade to 2.0.1 safely so stay tuned...
Update: Forum member
W9cae has given the update through iTunes a go on his first generation iPhone and is reporting that it does not result in a useless phone, with unlock and activtion remaining in place, leading some to believe Apple have given up trying. Jailbroken apps will not survive, however (wait for a Pwnage update for this) and of course you try this at your own risk. Be sure to post the results in the
thread if you do try...
