10. There are no other obligations, such as an obligation to purchase goods or services, connected to participation in thewin-an-iphone.

From iWorld Sales Team

Hello MacTalker's

WOW !!!

What a fantastic response we are getting at iWorld!!!!

We are confirming that we will get the iPhone. Just got to work out a couple of things first. But it will be the iPhone.

We have a couple more surprises coming up in the next couple of weeks as we start stepping up or work load with Mactalk.

BTW - The top 2 x selected products by the Mactalkers is the DLO Leather Slim case and the Philips Portable iPhone speaker.

Good luck !!!!!

Also entered... though I have a feeling a lot of people are going to "win" an iphone on launch day, but then they'll be stuck on an $80 plan for 24 months

Hmmm... hate to be a pessimist but... here's a competition with no hard and fast rules people... the giveaway item has not been fully specified; is it the old iPhone, the new one, what size is it? Is it unlocked? Is it locked to a carrier and you have to wear the cost of a plan?

Why is the same competition promoted on the Macworld website? Why do you need to be a member of Macworld for that competition but not for the one on the iWorld site? What are the restrictions, if any, to the number of entries? Are these in fact two different competitions and if not not, why aren't the Terms & Conditions the same?

And then this cryptic message appears (from iWorld?) basically telling us that the iPhone isn't even confirmed yet!

This seems to be a Trade Promotion (under NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing; a free-entry lottery conducted by a business to promote its products or services). In this case they are promoting their range of iPhone accessories which make up part of the entry form.

A permit would seem to be required, which would clear up all of those pesky little details, like what are they actually giving away and what is it valued at (and many other things to boot).

Incidentally, Macworld are also running a separate competition not tied to iWorld, giving away two 16GB iPhones - they are not tied to a service provider and Macworld value them at only $299.

Update

Hello All.

Just to clear the mind and not to give any mixed messages.

1. It will the the new 16Gb iPhone 3G in Black.

2. We are just double checking about the plan structure. That is all.

3. MacWorld is a different comp we are running. We are also running one with Gizmodo later in the week.

4. In all we will be giving away 3 x 16GB Black iPhone 3g units. That is one for Mactalk - one for Gizmodo and one for MacWorld.

Hope that clears things up.

Thanks

I normally don't have much luck with these things, but, hey ... what's to lose?

Entered.

It might help if the T&C page had someone doing a bit of proof reading to ensure spaces are put in between words (such as in the mention of emails you receive for entering):

4. If you submit on the web site. You also agree to receive non-rated marketing messages fromiWorld Australia from time to timebasis.

Hmmm, I get a 'server is not responding' error. That and the above is not something to fill me with confidence that it's a professional operation.

I wouldn't trust Macworld au to run a decent competition to save their own asses. They showed with the macbook air debacle that they have no idea about terms, conditions or whatnot. To suggest that they know how much an iPhone is worth or if it will be tied to a carrier or not is just plain stupid (again) on their part. Apple have not released pricing here, and the phone carriers have not announced if the phone will be available as an outright purchase or locked to a contract.... for Macworld to suggest they know these things is stupid at best, or a lie at worst.

What the hell

Nothing to lose.

My only concern is that we're going to get ambushed by 100,000 idiots registering here so they can enter the Mactalk comp.

^well it would appear you don't need to be registered here to be in the comp, but obviously you have to have visited here to know about it. I sent it to some friends, but at the moment the site is down... perhaps it's gone viral and the site isn't coping?

Correct - no need to be a MacTalk member to enter the comp. Anyone that finds this comp is welcome to enter.

I would like to think that MacTalk made the comp so popular that their site is down, but I don't think that is the case
