So yeah, I miscalculated a minute: 1.25 minus 1.17 is 8 minutes.
So, even if this thread started 11.23am, how is the file from the future? It's been manipulated, probably at least twice.

Ahh poor Gizmodo - trumped again by MTAU. Now shoo troll! Get ye back under the bridge!

Yup, received yesterday, news story written last night, posted this morning

Umm...second paragraph of the main story and also the link in the third paragraph perhaps?

From the EXIF data:
Date Time Digitized: 2008:06:05 14:58:07
Date Time Original: 2008:06:05 14:58:07
I'm trying to find another tool that might pull more info out than Preview, but so far, you're still wrong. Image was taken yesterday.

I'm going to go out here on a limb, against popular opinion and say this is just a hoax or a joke, why is the sticker over the stamp like someone earlier stated? Also, why would Apple send just one unit, and on Friday, when they could send it on Monday. I just don't believe Apple would send something like this.
I bet they will open it and find something stupid in there like promo material or a service part like a hard drive.

Why would a service part not be allowed to be opened until the 10th?

Stamp is preliminary checking and would've been part of the original mass shipment, then seperate labels...
Public Holiday Monday...
Sheesh!

First the stamp on the box is from the company that made the box probably and the address label was stuck on after and second it could not arrive on monday as it is a public holiday and then it would not get there till tuesday which is to late.

The stamp is a general box stamp. If you flip and twist the image you can clearly see it says "Packagaing (Shang Hai) GRC"
Box Certificate
It's too small for me to make out the inner text. This is not a post stamp at all.

Use a full EXIF extraction tool, or view the XMP data. Preview is not one of those.
"File date and time: 2008.06.06 13:25:22"
And
"Date and time of original data generation: 2008.06.05 14:58:07"
Image *was* taken yesterday. Image was *fiddled with* today. And not just to add black boxes most likely.

Yeah, the image was taken yesterday and we put it up today and covered up the address and barcode on the box to trace who it came from. What's wrong with that?

It was fiddled with 13 minutes before being posted to this site. Well, duh.
You're still wrong. And using Image::MetaData::JPEG to pull out ALL of the data from the file, I don't see ANYTHING that confirms your assertions.
