Wednesday March 26th Edition
First up today we didn't see anything of note (an iPod restore utility doesn't count!) from Cupertino
this Tuesday. Is this the end of weekly product updates/releases, a result of the Easter weekend or are Apple sick of Tuesdays?
For those using Apple Pro applications, Plugin Manager has been
updated to 1.7.3, find it in your Software Update now or
get it direct from Apple.
To the delight of some users (I'm looking at you, mechcon),
Crossover: Games (7.0) has been released. For those unfamiliar, Crossover enables some Windows games and applications to run natively on your Mac. A 7 day trial is available.
Rounding off the major software updates for today,
Yahoo Messenger Beta 3 has been released. The biggest news of this release is the added support for voice calls, meaning Mac users now have the same functionality as our Windows counterparts. I have always personally been a fan of the updated Yahoo Messenger and am sometimes left wishing it wasn't MSN that dominated instant messaging in Australia. On that note, Yahoo Messenger will allow text chats to MSN users, but webcam unfortunately does not work. It is a nice client nonetheless.
Download it now and give it a shot!
Rumour alert!
Macrumors is reporting that some analyst via Asian sources claims Apple has ordered 10 million 3G iPhones and we can expect to see a 3G iPhone in 'a few months'. Yup...keep dreaming.
Microsoft has hinted at Microsoft Office iPhone applications following the release of the SDK. Let's hope that if they materialise, they are cheaper and faster than Office '08...
9to5mac reports that Manga Anime films will be available via iTunes, not that this will be much good to those of us here in Australia who are still hanging out for a bit of TV show and movie rental love on the Australian ITMS. You could of course
get a US iTunes account however.
Apple poster boy, John Mayer,
seems to be having some problems with iTunes. I don't normally give a rats what celebrities do but his error report message is a a must read for a good laugh! [

Finally, although not Mac related, fellow geeks may be interested to know the
Digital TV switchover date has been announced - December 31st, 2013. This will be the day when analog transmissions will be turned off, forcing viewers to upgrade or go without the idiot box.
