Maybe there will be an exploit oneday but until that day i think most mac users will be happy to continue taking the risk. As for XP users.... If they are not running AV then chances are they will get infected at some point no matter if you take the time and resources to make sure your not the one sending them the infected file.

Maybe your right. Ill make this statement instead. AV is a complete waste of time and resources if you just want to protect Mac OS X.

I'm more for the evolution theory with AV.
If an XP box becomes infected, keels over and dies, with any luck it will be replaced with a Mac.
So therefore, less PC's, more Macs.

I find this argument utter nonsense. I don't carry condoms for my promiscuous friends. Why should I run anti-virus software to protect other peoples Windows machines.
It is the individuals responsibility to protect their own machine, not mine. Anyway all Windows users should be running AV software, so therefore their AV will be scanning all incoming files. If they're not running AV, then stupid them.
If you are so charitable, then good for. But I believe this is a weak argument and one I would not use to recommend others getting AV software.

I agree. Why should I spend more money and processor and RAM resources to keep other people's machines clean? That's one reason why I spent the extra money upfront and got a Mac instead, so I don't have to worry about it. If PC owners had made that choice, then they wouldn't have to be worried about viruses either (for now at least, maybe there will be a day when Macs will need AV, and then I will buy and run it).
I don't expect to spend my money helping others fix up their substandard cars so they can pass rego inspection and safely share the road with me, that is their responsibility. Why are computers any different?
And I like Phase's evolutionary take on it as well.
