Microsoft Office 2008 12.0.1 and Apple Airport Utility 5.3.1 now available.

Microsoft has released a large (114 MB) update to Office 2008 that fixes a number of critical issues including security vulnerabilities in Excel as well as a number of crashes.

Download details: Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.0.1 Update

Apple has released AirPort Utility 5.3.1 for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, 10.5 Leopard and Windows Vista. Previously only available on the software CD with the Time Capsule, this utility is freely download-able as well as being available in Software Update. Notably, it has the ability to install a program that runs in the background and can monitor your Airport Extreme or Time Capsule for when extra USB drives are connected on the local network, as well as check for software and firmware updates. It also makes it easy to roll back a base station to earlier firmware if an update causes problems.

One of the more useful features added, however, is the ability to set the Bonjour name of a base station. If you aren't already aware, Bonjour is the network service that allows devices to automatically discover each other and connect. Being able to set the name allows you to set what people see the name as in their Leopard side-bar and Network view.

Anyone else had issues with mds and mdworker processes running 100% CPU after upgrading to Office 12.0.1?

Fans full blast, etc. Not dissimilar to this: High CPU usage after Office 2008 upgrade Bloody Fingers

EDIT: Wait, it's all back to normal now. The update must have blown away all of my Spotlight Indexes, or something, prompting a re-Index of my WHOLE DRIVE!!!

Sheesh, MS.

The more I use Word '08 the more I hate it... I was quite impressed with it at first but it is just problem after problem - it is almost unusable with Spaces and I love Spaces. It's also slow as a dog sometimes. Went into Pages today and was glad to be home. Too bad I like the Notebook feature of Word too much.

Any word on if this update fixes Spaces issues? I don't wanna try updating yet for ummm, reasons.
