MacTalk's Live Audio Commentary Streaming of Macworld '08 Keynote!
MacTalk's Live Audio Commentary Streaming of Macworld '08 Keynote!
Live Stream Over
3:45AM (AEDT), Wednesday, 16th Jan
We can't get to San Francisco this year (again damnit!), but we'll be doing something new this time - a live audio feed from Melbourne! That's right - a couple of us diehard Mac nerds are meeting up near a big QuickTime Streaming server with a fat pipe to the internet and will be gathering all the live news we can and giving our 2c on the goings on while Steve does his thing.
So if you'd prefer to listen to the keynote, rather than simply read it or want someone to decipher it for you, tune in to the stream by visiting the MacTalk front page and clicking a nice big link to the streaming server which will appear closer to the keynote time (hopefully night before).
If you can't tune in live, it's okay - we will be making the broadcast available as a podcast ASAP after we've finished (hopefully before 7:30AM, maybe 8AM).
Keep an eye on the MacTalk front page for more info!
Don't forget to join us our IRC chat channel for live discussion of what's going on. You can chat easily through your web browser.

might be an idea to contact Jeremy from NextByte/Frequency - he will be there this year and might agree to ring in a report?

Is there a test server somewhere to see that I can hook in for a test?
Also I gather that the main keynote starts at 4AM our time?

Sorry, one other question - are the sources of your info going to be acknowledged at the time? i.e. if you're getting the info from macrumors.com or macworld.com.au will you be appropriately attributing it? I'd imagine that'd be expected from each source you're getting it from?

Are you going to me posting any images anywhere, or links, live?

I'm confused - is this a live audio stream of the actual keynote (as your title suggests), or is this a live audio stream of you guys talking about the keynote?

My understanding is that this will be a live MTAU Podcast of sorts.
A first?
BTW No editing, comes with all the wrinkles.

Sounds good, but I'd rather wait and watch the event. Does anyone have a link for a spoiler free stream of the Keynote, I recall one last year but can't remember where it was.

It's at MacRumors. If you've subscribed to it in the past, you will remain subscribed.

MacTalk live audio streaming of the keynote - not an actual live audio feed from San Fran.
We will be detailing the sources of our info of course.
Test server will be publically available Monday.

Thanks for the clarification. So from what I can gather, you don't actually have a live audio stream of the keynote, you'll have a live audio stream of yourselves reading other sites' coverage of the keynote.
Wouldn't people be better to check a primary source like www.macworld.com.au (which
will have representatives in the auditorium) rather than waiting for you to
read it to them?
Also have you actually asked permission from the various sites to re-use their
content in this way prior to the event?"

No-one is stopping people from doing that. I imagine the commentary will be more entertaining for the responses rather than the actual content.

I doubt it but since they will be crediting sources and discussing the event in a different format to that of the sources I don't see the problem. Plus there will be multiple sources so it's not as if a site is losing an exclusive deal because of this.
