10,000 Members for MacTalk - YAY!
Tonight, MacTalk Australia's forums passed ten thousand registered members. (it doesn't feel that long ago that we were celebrating 10,000 posts!)
When Disko and I started this site on January 1st 2004, our goal was to hit 70 members. We initially setup this site to fill the mac gap in Australian online forums (we got tired of 'zomg macs are crapz!' from every other forum we'd been on). Our original target was reached in about four months. At that stage, we joked that 10,000 was the next target - and here it is! Thanks everyone for bringing your selves to this site to make it what it is today. Since MacTalk was born, everyone involved have stayed focused on a friendly, helpful and fun community.
To celebrate, Disko threw together a desktop background made up of most of the user avatars on our forums. You should be able to spot yourself there if you've got one.

We've got some cool things in store for you in the coming months, so watch this space!
Yay for 10,000! Bring on 20,000!

I remember when joining (as a result of decryption advertising on aus.computers.mac) that we needed a Mac forum in Australia. I would have never imagined that we'd become a site of such significance in the last 3 and a half years, let alone do so without loosing that small community feeling.

10,000 members is huge! Well done to all who work so hard to keep this site afloat... so that it can be the first site I hit every morning - without fail.
Well done!

milestone 4: macs take over the world
milestone 5: retire happy!
Seriously though everything i've seen from this site is good stuff so keep up the good work and 10,000 contributing members shows just the depth of knowledge and assistance and experience that is mactalk's major strength - its members.
