Adobe CS3 Announced

Adobe CS3 leak - Announced!

Click the image to open in full size.
Amazon canada has posted pics and prices for the upcoming Creative Suite 3 package from Adobe expected to be released later today AEST. (US March 27). the Good News is : Lots of mac products.

The Bad News is : A lack of universal code, meaning it's Power PC only or Intel or virtualisation only. "Although most users of legacy PowerPC systems can be assured that their existing tools will see new life in the CS3 upgrade, including current CS2 and former Macromedia web apps, the Master Collection is listed as Intel-only -- revealing that some or all of the revived Mac video editing components are unlikely to ever receive native PowerPC code."

Adobe's prices are also considerably higher than before. They range from $2499US ($3088AU) for the Master Collection to $1599US ($1975AU) for the Web or Design package, down to $1199US ($1481AU) for the Production (video) package.

Official Australian availability and pricing is not yet available.

No universal packages really hurts the wallet, and is there any upgrade solution from CS2 to the new editions? When you have a solid grip on the market is it really necessary to strangle your faithful users? Whats' next will they charging by the number of undo's you make? For those of us having to shell out plenty to upgrade a whole studio of macs this sounds very grim indeed. I will be very interested to see the Australian prices for these editions... it's scaring the pants off me already just thinking about it.

Sorry clients my hourly rate just went up - just call Adobe if you don't like it.

There will be upgrade pricing, although what it will be in Oz is anyone's guess.

For more details about the (US) pricing and what the various configurations contain, have a look at the macrumors website.

The normal CS apps are universal by the looks of it - its just the video editing ones which are only intel but thats the only reason they brought them back...

Are flash, dreamweaver CS3 universal? Or are they still going to be PowerPC?

I think Adobe is in bed with Microsoft.

Are the prices for the PC versions the same/similar?

My understanding is that all the previously available applications are Universal. It's only the video editing applications that are making a return to Mac that are Intel only. Hence only the Master Collection being listed as Intel only.

And personally, I like the boxes. Too bad the application icons will remain hideous.

well for Photoshop CS3 the sys reqs state PPC or Intel...

http://www.adobe.com/products/photos...op/systemreqs/

it'll be interesting to seee how the US$650 translates into AU$ given that current exchange rates equates that to just over AU$800 (okay add your GST etc after)

never mind - retail is AU$1125

You can upgrade from PS 7, Illustrator 10, etc. but the upgrade prices get steeper the more versions back you go. For instance, to upgrade to the Design Premium suite from PS7, it's $2,775!

But... Upgrade from PS7 to CS2.3 Premium for around $1,300 and then up to CS3 for $765 and save yourself a fair bit of dough.

That's what I'll be doing.
