Here's Robby (on the left). A G4 500 upgraded to 1.2 GHZ with a Mercury Extreme card. He also sports a Radeon 8500 graphics card and Sonnet gigabit and FW 400 cards. Robby runs us.madchat.tv, one of your friendly madchat IRC servers. To his right is Colossus, a G4 DP 800 QuickSilver whose sole role in existence at this time is to keep Robby company and back him up should Robby decide that he'd like to retire =)

Both G4's are connected to a Belkin 1100 VA UPS and share a 1.1 mbps SDSL connection along with other computers on the LAN.

Robby was born in a factory in Belgium in 1999, sold to his current and only owner (me) later that year in Ashdod, Israel, moved around to Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv, Nazareth and finally Afula when finally he decided to join his master on a plane to San Francisco in May, 2003.

Robby went back into action in Berkeley, CA USA in late May, 2003 as a web server, eventually being replaced by Colossus and then later a couple of Xserves.

Nice set up goodbye!

I see you've been visiting the swedes down at springwood I looked at that desk as well the other week. With all the faux filing trays at the end.
Very nice.

I have the strange, but nevertheless overwhelming desire to eat that Mcbook. I have no idea why.

Out of interest, what is the book sitting on the Dell monitor?

My set-up in Japan, which I just neatened up. There's a PC under the TV acting as a very expensive DVD player and Linux test box. Since I don't have room for using both my 20" monitors, the second one is connected to the PC. You can also see the IP phone router and cable modem underneath the PC. I'm very good at hiding cables

`Underground' by Suelette Dreyfus. A great book about 80s BBS's and hacking in Australia. You can download it in PDF form from - http://www.underground-book.com/

The desk is originally from Ikea - the Galant series. You can buy all different bits for them. I found this one one eBay and got it from there. New you're probably looking to pay between $600 and $800 for the setup I have - I haven't actually checked.

And aa... yeah, but the Springwood store has such a poor range compared to the ones down south. I noticed they are building a new one though south of Springwood near Ormeau.

Dont mean to be pedantic but its just down the road from the old store in slacks creek (about 2km down the highway on the opposite side). Not exactly near ormeau, though I notice your from the sunshine coast so ill let you off since you arent local :P

Very nice desk

You neat freaks put me to shame .....

One of my teachers told me that a tidy desk is a sign of an empty mind, so going on that premise, I must have a very full mind. Exactly what it is full of is quite another question, but about once a year the accumulation of shite on my desk gets to me and I reduce it by a few percent.

My desk is about to get more fuller (if thats the rigght term to use) as I've just applied to get my ham radio licence back after a break of a few years. VK4YEH if anyone is interested ( at least that was my old callsign and it seems to still be available now).

Now, what do I move to make room for the HF rig. Oh wait a minute, I told Marg there wouldnt be any more electronics on the desk ......... lemmme seee ..... ahh yes under the desk behind the drawers looks good. Or maybe hidden in the bottom paper drawer of the printer .....

Where did I hide all that aluminium tubing for the 6m antenna .... ?

Oh dear, it seems that we will have to sell up and move so that I can accomodate all the essential electronics of this houshold. Not to mention the train set, the radio controlled helicopter, the mecanno, the leggo, the emac that my new grandson will just have to have when he visits his boring old grandparents.

Life just gets so hard .......

tidy desk or bed ....... tidy desk or bed ........ tidy desk or bed ?????

sorry guys, bed wins tonight, and most other nights

cheers
Tim R
