Camino 1.0 (final) released

[img]http://www.appletalk.com.au/newsimg/camino.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' align='right' />The Camino Project (CaminoBrowser.org) has released Camino 1.0 (final), after over a year of hard work by devoted volunteers. This latest version fixes hundreds of bugs and implements many new features, providing all users with an improved browsing experience.

Camino 1.0 brings a heavily-updated version of the only native Mac OS X browser using Mozilla’s Gecko rendering engine. Thousands of bugs were fixed in Gecko 1.8, providing users with improved web page compatibility.

Camino 1.0 is similar to Camino 1.0 Release Candidate 1 (RC 1), which was released on 4 February, 2006.

Have never used Camino before, but downloaded it now that it is out of Beta. It looks sweet! A true competitor for Safari!

yeah i enjoyed safari, but the work's proxy servers are a heap of crap sometimes with safari (can't be arsed to show the forum post about it) so im sticking with firefox, i can use it at home, and at work, problem is having to change a setting each time i come to work (connection settings)

Sweet, I've used Camino as my main browser since RC1.... every body should learn and use the 'find as you type' feature - it makes internet research and browsing 10 times faster (ok, not 10 times, but at least 2 times :P)

I have Camino as a spare in Applications and Dock, does the update load into it automatically?
If you have an alias to Camino in your dock then you must have installed a version at some time. Just drag the newly downloaded Camino to your applications folder and you will be asked if you want to replace the existing one .. Click yes and the same alias in your dock will now open the new version.

I use Firefox by choice, but only because I (wrongly) assumed it had subsumed the Camino project. I have always liked Mozilla, but did not use the mail client or html stuff, so Firefox suited me. Oh, and one other reason, I have macs, windows pcs and Linux pcs so having one browser for all is great.

Has anyone compared the 2 browsers?

I've been using Camino for well over 12 months, now. Great browser. One of the things that I like about it over Safari is that the latest features of Camino are available to me even though I'm running an older version of OSX. Safari makes me stay well back from the latest updates.

Camino vs Firefox? Camino, for me, runs much faster! And more smoothly.

Thanks, Camino!

Just to clarify what AusMac said, as I had to re-read his post a couple of times.

Georgina, the latest version of Camino won't download automatically, but once you download the latest update via http://www.caminobrowser.org/ and then install it, your dock alias will launch the latest version.

Cheers,
Andrew
