Outlook Express to Mail ??

I have recently upgraded from an old G3 iMac to a 2.66 GHz iMac8.

I used Microsoft's Outlook Express version 5.0.6 as the mail program on the G3 and have started using Mail 3.0 on the new iMac (running OS X 10.5.2)

I wish to transfer my mail messages and addresses from Outlook Express to Mail but note that Mail has no option to import from Outlook Express.

Does someone know how to achieve this transfer?

Great a Gmail IMAP account.

Open that Gmail account on the G3's email software.

Drag and drop all your email from the G3 into the IMAP account.

Then, in the new iMac, either keep all your email in the IMAP account (my recommendation, if you have broadband), or drag and drop them email from the IMAP account into your new iMac's folders.

There are other ways of doing it -- but I found this method works perfectly.

The big hurdle is learning how to use IMAP -- if you've never done it before.

You may be able to import the Outlook Express emails into Thunderbird, then import them into Mail from Thunderbird. I'm not too sure exactly.

From memory, there is a mac utility (not free) that converts between all the major email formats. Someone else might know what it's called.

I have managed to import all my messages from Outlook Express to Microsoft Entourage version 9.0 on the G3 machine.

Does this help?

You can export Outlook Express to Microsoft Entourage (via a free trial download available from Microsoft) and then import Entourage into Apple Mail via the Aplle Mail Wizard…

Transfers from OS 9.2 to OS X ??????

Thanks for the hint.

I think the problem I have is that the G3 machine is running on OS 9.2.
Is that why I cannot transfer from the G3 Entourage to the OS X Entourage?

I am also in trouble with the Address Book that was part of Microsoft Word. How do I move the Address Book from my old iMac (OS 9.2) to the new iMac (OS X)?

How I did in on my Macbook:

Outlook Express (used this for many years on PC) -> Thunderbird -> Entourage (used this for 2 years) -> Mail.
