Hotmail account is not available for Mail?
Hey I have experiencing some problems with my Mail, as I no longer can get the new mails for my Hotmail account. A friend of mine told me the same thing last night.
Is there any way to fix this? or this service is no longer available for Mail user? Any other replacement?

I was under the impression that hotmail did not work on Desktop mail clients, as they would lose their website advertising - which is how they keep paying for the service.

That is exactly right
You know how much M$FT loves their advertising.

Except that Hotmail has been accessible on the PC side through Outlook since Office 2003

I've had mixed success with MacFreePOP, gotmail and one other "hotmail-forwarder" app, resulting in failed transfers and even loss of mail messages. I ended up settling on using a shareware program called Mail Forward and gmail as an intermediary, and it has worked flawlessly. I use my gmail account as my primary mailbox, which my mail program (in my case, Eudora) can download from easily, and Mail Forward runs as a background (hidden on startup) program that runs every 30 minutes and automatically forwards all my Hotmail messages to gmail.

Free hotmail accounts won't work... they would work with httpmail, but that got broken in the last Leopard update and at the end of June, the hotmail protocol is changing so it's not going to be unbroken ever.
It's the end of hotmail for me...

Ever is a long time.
You could probably bet that it would be broken within a few weeks or so.

When Gmail came out, I discovered that it had POP3 email access. I switched within a week (this was during the invite-only period).

One more vote for gmail ... it got free IMAP access about a year ago.
Very reliable.

what are you talking about? outlook express up to version 6 supported hotmail, and afterwards windows live mail desktop supports hotmail and all other pop3 and imap email accounts for that matter.
and newsgroups, and RSS feeds.
and its free.
and theres no ads.
and its only for windows.

Um, aren't we both on the same wavelength here? Debunking the "hotmail did not work on Desktop mail clients, as they would lose their website advertising" bit? I was just giving one example that came to mind, and you've provided others (albeit we're both still talking about PCs).

No. That change has been postponed:
Reprieve: Hotmail for Mail.app not (quite) dead | Hawk Wings
But nobody knows when M$ will switch to the new system.
