A VCR that can watch discs? Interesting thought!
Anyway, HandBrake will only do part of the job, you'll also need something like DVD2OneX2 (think thats the name) to shrink to the right size to burn to a disc, and then a program that will actually burn the disc, like Toast.

You have Handbrake working correctly if you can watch the resulting file on your computer.
To burn the video to DVD to watch on a standalone player, you need to either:
Copy with Mac The Ripper, then burn the resulting files with Toast or similar,
or
Import the file from Handbrake into Toast (or similar) and burn it that way, but it will take ages (well it does for me)

I've found that if you have a working VIDEO_TS movie and want to shrink so that it fits onto a DVD (single layer) and do the burn in one easy step, DVDRemaster is a pretty nice little app

DVD2OneX will also burn the file to DVD.

Whilst on the topic - (yes, I'm breaking in) - how does one make Hand Brake convert a DVD that has Episodes, eg: Fawlty Towers is divided into it's Episodes, yet if I try to Hand Brake it, it'll only convert the 4th Episode on the Disc, and if I choose another, it will go for the 4th again.
Has anyone else experienced this and know what I mean?
and is there a way to force Hand Brake to see all Episodes and convert it into one flick?
Ta,

I've been converting Only Fools & Horses DVD's - and when in Handbrake, it lets me choose each episode one by one....mmm that doesn't help you does it...

No idea what is happening in your instance, sorry. When I insert a DVD which has several episodes on it, I am able to convert all the episodes in succession without any problems. The episodes show up and I can either tick them all or select some to copy.

Just rip the DVD with MacTheRipper and then burn the VIDEO_TS Folder it produces, onto a 4.7GB DVD-R, with Toast Titanium - and yes: this is illegal.

There is a title popup menu on the top left that lets you choose which episode to import. Add each to the queue before you start importing.

Not that I'm aware of, although if the DVD has a "play all" option, then one of the title options will be 4 times the length of each episode, and can be imported as a single movie.

I agree with ClockWork. Use MacTheRipper when ripping a DVD. When I last looked, Handbrake converted it's files into a lossy format (e.g. MPEG4) which is great for iPods etc. but not so great for putting onto another DVD.
If you do want to use HandBrake for other putting stuff on an iPod, I posted a while back on the settings I use:
Handbrake Users - Rejoice!
Although the latest version has a couple of iPod pre-sets which work pretty well.

HI,
Did a search, downloaded all the software such as handbrake, transmission, perian etc.
As a trial project, I attended a P2P 'site and downloaded an episode of Family Guy.
(I know this is a little un-kosher but it's purely for research and training purposes).
I saved the downloaded file at work to a CD-R and the file name is; Family.Guy.S06E12.PROPER.PDTV.XviD-E7.[eztv]_[mininova].torrent
I am wanting to save this file to itunes to stream wirelessly to a PS3 and also keep to load on to my iphone in the future.
So, I inserted the CD-R when I got home and I've spent an hour or so 'Opening With' and other guesses but I am having no luck as it comes up with 'Cannot open quicktime document'.
Can anyone please help me?
Cheers!
