You've downloaded a torrent file - you need bit-torrenting 101.......I think.

How big is the file....a few kb?

doobsy....you have the torrent file which is not the actual video...that file tells your torrent client how to get the video file. You would probably find a similar file name (but with a .avi extension) which is the video. That is what you want to try and stream to the PS.

To watch on the iPhone you need to convert it to mp4 (H.264) format use visualhub for this (about the best I have used)

handbrake *only* converts mpeg files to other formats (.avi .mp4 .m4v .mkv) to convert between them use visualhub.

Medialink is a **very** handy piece of software to stream video/audio/pix to your PS but can't handle (well not over wifi anyway) large bitrate files (like movies encoded at over 1.5Mbit/s)

I saved the downloaded file at work to a CD-R and the file name is; Family.Guy.S06E12.PROPER.PDTV.XviD-E7.[eztv]_[mininova].torrent
I am wanting to save this file to itunes to stream wirelessly to a PS3 and also keep to load on to my iphone in the future.
So, I inserted the CD-R when I got home and I've spent an hour or so 'Opening With' and other guesses but I am having no luck as it comes up with 'Cannot open quicktime document'.
Can anyone please help me?
Cheers!
Like the last two posters have pointed out; you have downloaded a .torrent file (usually ~ 20KB). This only contains information that allows a torrent client to find and assemble all the pieces of the complete actual file. The other thing is that torrents cannot be streamed or be used as a source of a video stream. By their very nature they are downloaded as components at random and assembled incrementally.

I for one...am VERY much looking forward to a potential blu-ray feature that gives you a "mini" version of the movie to put onto your portable media player...

Hmmm... Thnaks for the responses.
It plays when I double-click the file on the pee cee.
I will have another look at it tomorrow and try to re-burn the disc as a .avi
In the mean-time I will look at bit-torrenting 101...

Just re-checked it.
It's 175MB,I saved it as a .avi file and it plays but there are some serious syncing problems with pixellation, stalling etc.

Back to the drawing board and more post searching...

I am slowly gasping the concept.
It's all WAY too dodgy and clandestine for me.
I have destroyed/deleted all aforementioned files and am in the process of working with a dvd made from a family home video.

Are you allowed to re-format a dvd (that you have bought from a licensed retailer) digitally, to watch on another device such as an ipod or through apple tv?

Unfortunately...it would seem that bypassing a copy protection scheme (in dvd's case CSS or content scrambling system) isn't the most legal thing in Australia. mind you if you record a movie onto your mac via eyetv or something like that...all good

Even for private use?
I can totally understand public broadcast restrictions but re-formatting for private use restrictions is pretty full-on.
Especially when the serious scoff-laws aren't getting nailed...

I think I'll just go back to my 35mm SLR, discman and vhs...

yes...even for private use...which is why they are talking about putting a mini version of the movie on blue-ray discs in thefuture to prevent ppl having to do it....it's all just politics really...

The lesson is: record off TV if you can...at least that is legal here

What is the size of the file?

a .torrent file usually is very small (about 4KB) and contains the link to the actual source (in this case, video) file.

You will need an torrent app to open this .torrent file to commence download.

The beauty of torrent files lies in how many of them you can fit on a DVD-R...

Cheers

It's all very strange. The size of the file was 175MB and when I opened it with transmission, it started downloading the whole file again.

This is something I can't afford to do ATM as I am house-sitting my Mother's place and she has a 2Gb capped bundle.

Anyway, I'll just play through trial and error. The dvd that I just ripped is in my itunes library now and looks as though it will all be good.

Thanks again for all suggestions.
