/cores by default is an empty directory. If files are there they are core memory dumps form an application crash.

I've had two kernel panics in recent days. I've run TechTools Deluxe and it reports a clean bill of health. It's also a new install of Leopard with all updates installed:

Sorry Graham. Not a lot I can help you with. The process that crashed was the OS kernel on both occasions.

Favicons are the little icons that appear in the URL line of your browser.
However, Currawong is right ... the dump you provided is probably not enough to go by.

Graham, the "page fault" bit sounds like memory. Try re-seating your computer's RAM.

Thanks. I had the hard disk replaced recently so it might be possible the memory chips were nudged while it happened. At the rate this machine is going I'm thinking of painting it lemon.

What hard disk was put in? There are a couple of models of hard disk that, due to the built-in shock protection were not compatible with MacBooks and caused kernel panics. IIRC they were Western Digital models, but I could be wrong.

Based on the model number it's a Seagate. Both times it died was when I was in Parallels. It could be due to one of their drivers or just a coincidence. It has (touch wood) been OK the last couple of days.

Parallels running with the wrong drivers could contribute to be the problem Graham.
If Parallels/Bootcamp was installed on the hardware config prior to the HDD swap out then this maybe something to look at.
Have a think ...
Cheers

Parallels, Pages, Activity Monitor, Mail, Safari, Address Book, iCal. There might have been a couple of other apps but nothing that would dig into the lower levels of the system.
My Parallels VM was created from scratch when I put a fresh install of Leopard on the machine.

I ran Rember for a while but that didn't show a problem. I had *two* KPs last night. Parallels was running both times. On the second time it corrupted the local Subversion workspace. There are complaints on the Parallels forum about this but they don't appear to have a fix available for MacBooks.
It's pretty shoddy work from Apple that an application - even one which implements a virtual network interface - can bring down the system.
