Sick of Safari opening links in a new window?

You can set Safari preferences to open links in a new tab instead of a new window - but it doesn't always work. Even with plug-ins like SafariStand there's usually one or two exceptions.

TUAW have found a hidden preference in Safari 3.1 that changes this - just a quick Terminal command and it's single-window goodness forever. Huzzah!

Code:
defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true

Yeah - I like it. Much better than a new window each time you click a link, or having to command/click.

Good stuff - thanks tcn33

Well, crap - this appears to be the one place this tip doesn't work for me. Clicking the internet banking login button still spawns a new window.

I knew this was too good to be true

edit: ah, it seems this only works on "target: _blank" links, not new windows spawned via Javascript. Oh well, still works 90% of the time I guess.

Dangit!

There must be a way.

Because having a safari window cover your entire 30" monitor for that tiny login screen is disgusting.

Well, there's this - but the next Safari update might break it. Or it might break Safari. Worth a try though.
